Requested move 21 August 2023
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. While it was noted that the "Effects of..." title would be WP:CONSISTENT with similar articles (e.g. those in Category:Effects of hurricanes in the United States), participants generally agreed that the current title is an improvement, as it improves WP:CONCISION without sacrificing clarity. The discussion also revealed that there's some interest in adopting this article's current titling style more broadly across effects-of-hurricane articles; I recommend that a batch RM or an RfC be held to gauge consensus on this topic. Hurricane Sandy in New England → Effects of Hurricane Sandy in New England – It is commonplace for a tropical storm sub article like this to include “effects of”, and I don’t know if the user who moved the article was totally aware of that. 97.64.79.143 (talk) 20:01, 21 August 2023 (UTC)— Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 21:03, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Courtesy ping User:InedibleHulk as their move is being disputed. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 14:32, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- I prefer "his", but don't really mind, thanks for pinging. InedibleHulk (talk) 11:42, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
- Eh, I was thinking to support per WP:TITLECON (see Category:Effects of tropical cyclones), and that personally I consider preparations an effect of a hurricane as it's a reaction directly provoked by a hurricane moving near/towards one's location. However, I don't really see the downside of this new title since it conveys pretty much the same meaning while being more concise, but departing from the existing convention will probably require a mass RM or discussion at WT:WPTC (FWIW I'd probably support a mass move if so proposed). ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 14:32, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware, thanks. I think my title choice fits better and that preparations are more an effect of forward-looking fear than of wind, but won't argue. Sometimes enough wrongs do make a right. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Similar to KN2731, I like the title Hurricane Sandy in New England as it's more concise and is already quite clear, while "effects of" doesn't really convey much additional meaning. In the bigger picture it would be consistent with articles like Climate change in Bangladesh (Category:Climate change by country) or COVID-19 pandemic in Japan (Category:COVID-19 pandemic by country) which are also typically about some combination of preparation, responses, and impact. Adumbrativus (talk) 00:00, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- Partly per KN2731, I actually think that we should move all of the "Effects of" articles to a new title without the "Effects of" (like Effects of Hurricane Dorian in the Carolinas to Hurricane Dorian in the Carolinas). Therefore I support InedibleHulk's move and oppose this request. 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 10:39, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- I would propose a mass move but it seems pretty complicated - does anyone else want to open one?199.76.113.24 (talk) 16:24, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Hurricane Sandy in New England → Effects of Hurricane Sandy in New England – The move request at WT:WPTC failed, with at least one participant explicitly calling for this to be reverted. As there seems to be no consensus for this new title scheme, for consistency purposes this article should be moved back. 108.58.51.130 (talk) 17:36, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support for WP:CONSISTENT reasons only, per the outcome of the previous RM at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Tropical_cyclones#Requested_move:_new_title_convention_for_Effects_of_(tropical_cyclone)_in_(region)_articles. Mdewman6 (talk) 21:22, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

- Support Although I personally oppose this, these articles should be uniform in titles, and there is nothing about this article that makes it different than every other one. 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 12:20, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
