VMFAT-501
editVMFAT-501 has officially returned home to MCAS Beaufort. Radio callsign, for the time being, is SWEDE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Archangel00 (talk • contribs) 05:54, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Khobar Towers
editAnyone want to tell me why there is no reference to the Khobar Tower attack of 1996 in the 33d FW history? Can someone more wiki-savvy than I undertake this project? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.131.29.136 (talk) 21:29, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- I added a link to Khobar Towers yesteday, because the majority of the victims were members of the 33d Fighter Wing. I'm not sure why someone removed it, but it is relevant. What gives? I'm putting the link back, and I will do so as many times as it is removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.131.29.136 (talk) 15:26, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

- As for the Khobar Towers, I concur that it should be in the page since most of the victims were from this base.

Inaccurate F-15 picture
editThe photo of the F-15 states that it belongs to the 60 FS. That is incorrect. Aircraft assigned to that squadron have a red band at the top of their tails. The logo on the side of the intake is clearly not the 60 FS 'fighting crow' either. I know the aircraft belongs to the 33 FW, because of the EG on the tail (aircraft on the test-side of the base have the designation ET), but it does not belong to the 60 FS. Maybe it belongs to the Air Control Squadron. In the 90's, the three main squadrons of the 33 FW had different markings - the 58 FS had blue bands, the 59 FS had gold/yellow bands, and the 60 FS had red bands. I'll edit the caption to state that the aircraft belongs to the 33 FW. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.131.29.136 (talk) 18:29, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Auxiliary Fields
editOn WP there's apparently no summary of the Eglin AFB auxiliary fields, there being at least 9 of them, some active, some not. I propose creating a new section with this title, using data from sources such as http://www.airfields-freeman.com/FL/Airfields_FL_Eglin.htm
On the current version of Eglin AFB page, there seems to be a confusing mixture of geography, units and operations in the decade histories and in the "operational history" sections - may I suggest a major re-organization to integrate stuff more logically, in conjunction with comprehensive auxiliary fields material? MTIA.PeterWD (talk) 12:44, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- There are ten, they're all numbered, named commemoratively for an officer killed in WWII, and assigned a specific function.--Reedmalloy (talk) 04:53, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- As for the second critique, the entire recent history is a disorganized, unprioritized and trivial- (as opposed to trivia) filled mishmosh. PIO releases another "fact"--quick, put it on wiki.--Reedmalloy (talk) 04:58, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
AC-130U Spectre
editQuoting the picture caption "An AC-130A Hercules gunship aircraft performs a pylon turn over Hurlburt Field during a training mission in 1984. The aircraft is from the 919th Special Operations Group at Eglin's Duke Field." The aircraft is not a "Hercules" as the Herky Bird was not armed, it was a Cargo aircraft. The pictured aircraft is Spectre. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.79.8.16 (talk) 17:41, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Split of History
editI started to look through this article and got lost in the History section! Not that it isn't an impressive effort in pulling all that information together, but the article is pretty unwieldy. As such, I thought I'd be bold and try to split off the History section into its own article.
There are a few things that I know are tricky, and will need someone with more knowledge to look at:
- I don't know which of the References and External Links relate to only the History section, so I have left all of them in the main article, and pulled almost all of them across into the subarticle as well.
- The latter subsections of History, namely Base Railroad, Previous Names, Major Commands to which assigned, Major units assigned, and Eglin Auxiliary fields: it wasn't clear which side of the split these should be, since although all of them contain some historical elements, they don't fit into the chronological style of the rest of the History section, and some parts of them relate to the present day status of the base.
- Although I've added the Main article: link, I haven't attempted a summary of the split text, so it just goes straight into the Railroad subsection. Ideally this would have a couple of paragraphs summarising the thousands of words I split off!
- I did a short contextual intro to the new article, mostly from the existing intro on the main article, but I'm sure this could be better.
I hope I haven't upset anyone by doing this, but I think it makes it easier for readers to navigate in this format. Gsyhiap (talk) 20:09, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
photos
editThe photos in the infobox really don't do much for the article there. the article is about an air force base, not the F-35... -- Aunva6talk - contribs 13:57, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
- I agree, but you run into ownership issues if you try to use pictures of the base foudn around the web and then post them on Wiki. If you have any personal pictures of the base, be my guest to go through the process. Ckruschke (talk) 19:01, 22 March 2013 (UTC)Ckruschke
