Incidentally, replacing all 2s with 1s and vice versa, as well as starting with the head, gives a vastly longer game, 8*243=1944 single moves as opposed to 8*27=216. I wonder if that might have been the original version; even if the “rabbit” shape is somewhat lost. Summsumm2 (talk) 15:32, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I just verified this on my spreadsheet: the position repeats after 243 circuits. In the original version it repeats after 27 circuits, which is also a multiple of 9. I can prove that with 8 holes and 14 seeds it has to be a multiple of 9, but with only 13 seeds I can only prove that it has to be a multiple of 3.
