Old Name

How was it known before being named Kitcheners Island? Presumably not "Island of Plants"? Drutt (talk) 18:29, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Possibly, "Island of Plantations". --BeckenhamBear (talk) 20:47, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Dates of Kitchener's ownership of the island

edit

Having difficulty in locating a good EARLY original reference for this. Everything is modern and not referenced. He may have received it in the 1890's, for leading the Egyptian Army to success in the Sudan. The battle of Toski was 1891. He took control of the Army in 1892. Major operations in the Sudan were between 1896 to 1898. Likely date of acquisition would be 1899, when he got many rewards. South Africa 1900-1902, and India 1902-1909 intervened. He may have sold his interest in it in 1902. This article is saying he was gifted the island, when he served as Consul-General in Egypt (no dates given), but that was from 29 September 1911 to June 1914. --BeckenhamBear (talk) 20:47, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
