In-universe material removed
editUnfortunately, despite years of effort to encourage editors to approach the subject from an out-of-universe perspective, as of today this article still consisted almost entirely of material drawn entirely from the 40k sourcebooks. In the end, the only way to prevent that from happening seems to be to remove all of the in-universe material and start with a core which is purely from a real-world perspective. I've now done that. Editors who wish to read about the intricacies of the Eldar are encouraged to visit any of the large number of lively external wikis which deal with 40k now: a simple web search for "40k wiki" returns plenty of excellent resources. The page lends itself by being in universe by starting of with a comparison between 40K and Warhmmer, it needs to start off with a paragraph or two about where GW got the idea for all their elves but particularly the ELdar in the first place and then perhaps expand by describing what real world events and theories have molded the mythology, culture and technology of the race (For the example the Craftworld Eldar are quite a clever mixing of Oriental martial arts and beleifes and the events of 'the Fall' are basically a rehash of the fall of the western roman empire, plus there's the whole equestion of their gods, that stories a pretty basic hero cycle and I've heard a pretty convincing argument that you can rename certain eldar gods The Emperor, Vader, Luke and Lia and it doesn't change the plot arc much, but that's probably just more evidence it's a generic epic hero saga.
I've done some editing to the intro, tried to make it more generic and real word relevant (pretty hard to do for a fictional race that's had 25 years of development done on it to give them their own uniquie feel), if I get time I'll do more. All the 40K stuff's gonna need revamping when 6th ed comes out anyway. - Ross Hulme. Feb 2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.30.123.244 (talk) 04:53, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Tolkien????
editHow come there is no reference to Tolkien's "original" Eldar ?? ♆ CUSH ♆ 22:58, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
"heavily derived from The Lord of the Rings elves, in that both are lithe humanoids with pointed ears"
Tolkien's elves are neither lithe nor pointy-eared. There are several references to Gandalf and some humans looking like powerful elven lords. The "lithe and pointy-eared" elves only appear in visual media, for some reason.

Wrong information about Codices
editThe Information about both Eldar and Dark Eldar having a 5th Edition Codex is wrong. Dark Eldar received a Codex in 5th Edition, the Eldar Codex is still 4th Edition. The current Edition is the 6th. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.74.73.96 (talk) 09:51, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
All codexes are 8th edition Rvaseysaund (talk) 17:34, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
