Vandalism
editSomething is very wrong with this article. I initially changed what appeared to be vandalism. The article narrator in a sentence implied that he himself abused the elderly before. Later in the article it says "one billion elderly Americans" are abused each day. This is obviously not possible as there are not one billion Americans period, yet alone one billion elderly Americans. Has someone vandalized this article as a joke? This article may need to be locked.
I think the article needs development and I will work on it over the next few weeks. As indicated, there are some obvious changes that need to be made although it is fundamentally a good piece of work. "Emotional abuse"
editI am removing the identification of "Emotional Abuse" as a type of elder abuse. There is little evidence for this type of abuse, distinct from Psychological Abuse. I am pasting the removed text below. If anyone has an argument for including Emotional Abuse, please discuss it here.
"Emotional: e.g Emotional abuse is like brain washing in that it systematically wears away at the victim's self-confidence, sense of self-worth, trust in their own perceptions, and self-concept. It is done by constant berating and belittling, by intimidation, or under the guise of 'guidance', 'teaching', or 'advice', the results are similar. Eventually, the recipient of the abuse loses all sense of self and remnants of personal value." --Zach425 03:18, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Also, can someone remove the word 'wieners' from the first section? It doesn't make sense. I'm not an expert editor, and I don't know how to edit the first section.
Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Assika126 (talk • contribs) 21:08, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Free public domain source (CRS report)
editI'm making an effort to put CRS reports on their related talk pages, since they're quite encyclopedic. Here's the CRS report on Elder Abuse. http://wikileaks.org/wiki/CRS:_Elder_Abuse%2C_December_20%2C_2006

Elder domestic abuse
editmight be an idea for a section on this. see for example: http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/dec/23/police-domestic-abuse-older-couples?CMP=twt_gu --Penbat (talk) 20:11, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Dependent Adult Abuse
editWhy does "dependent adult abuse" redirect here? I'm trying to find stuff about domestic violence in people who are not minorities but are still financially dependent on other adults (who are not their significant others). But all I get is directed to this article on elder abuse. 173.31.62.225 (talk) 01:18, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Elder Abuse
editI have been working on a research paper on elder abuse for my English class for college.
In researching of elder abuse, there is an understanding that Elder abuse comes in many forms. And that across the United States professional are being trained in law, awareness, and prevention throughout the past few years due to there are more defined terms to what is considered elder abuse which has not always been the case. Such as elder exploitation has become more prevalent and is reported more than any other type of ill-treatment. Even though elder abuse is an ongoing battle, advancement with knowledge and training brings hope to a horrific topic.

Law
editFrom a US perspective, it would be interesting to look into state and federal laws governing abuse of the elderly. This would be a huge task for laws in other countries. If anyone is watching this page, please @ me. I could easily work on FTC laws for abuse of the elderly via telecom, but I would have to look into law regarding social platforms. I am familiar with social services in several states for physical and mental abuse. Charles Juvon (talk) 00:16, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
