editcan someone elaborate on the chemical composition of these inks, is it only the addition of silver nitrate that makes them so permanent?
Yes, there is a pigment, but that's just the same as any "permanent" marker and can be washed off. It's the silver nitrate that permeates the skin cells down to live tissue and then (on exposure to ultra violet light) turns black. This can't be washed off, the cells have to be removed or left to naturally wear off as they are replaced from below. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.3.211.83 (talk) 00:47, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I am curious about the history of this practice. It would be great if someone could add content about when and where it started.69.143.208.41 (talk) 01:43, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
A possible mistake in the article "Election Ink"

I believe that the name inside the brackets should be Fellow of the Chemical Society. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srinivasan Ramani (talk • contribs) 05:28, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
