editI wonder if it might be an idea to format this as a table, with a bit of information about each electorate (population, key towns, etc). It looks somewhat bare at the moment. Rebecca 06:59, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Former electoral districts
editDoes anyone have a list of former electoral districts? I have noticed mention of:
- Electoral district of Albert
- Electoral district of Alexandra
- Electoral district of Alexandrina
- Electoral district of Stanley
- Electoral district of Sturt
I'm sure I'd find others if I looked hard enough.
Can anyone confirm that Alexandra and Alexandrina were different names for either different places or different times, or is one a typo?
Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 10:59, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- What timeframe are we talking about? I've got a copy of the biographical dictionary out from the library at the moment, as well as photocopies of the member lists for the first ten or so parliaments, so I might be able to help here. Rebecca 03:49, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Here's the list where I've found them so far:
- Electoral district of Albert (South Australia) - Archibald Peake 1893, 1897
- Electoral district of Alexandra - Archibald Peake, William Carpenter (Australian politician) 1902
- Electoral district of Alexandrina - replaced by Electoral district of Finniss in 1991
- Electoral district of Encounter Bay - William Carpenter (Australian politician) 1896
- Electoral district of Stanley - Henry Barwell 1915...1940
- Electoral district of Sturt - Thomas Reynolds 1857, Samuel Way 1875, Josiah Symon 1881, Crawford Vaughan 1915,
- electoral district of Wooroora - Richard Layton Butler elected 1915 and 1921
Also the first incarnation of Electoral district of Torrens (1902-1915) is missing: Crawford Vaughan 1905.
Sorry for being slow responding. Life outside wikipedia is busy lately. --Scott Davis Talk 11:50, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
These are the now-abolished ones from the first eleven parliaments, which is all I have access to at the moment.
- Albert
- Barossa
- Burra
- City of Adelaide
- Gumeracha
- East Adelaide
- East Torrens
- Encounter Bay
- Gladstone
- Mount Barker
- Newcastle
- Noarlunga
- North Adelaide
- Onkaparinga
- Stanley
- Sturt
- The Burra
- The Burra and Clare
- The Murray
- The Sturt
- Yatala
- Victoria
- Wallaroo
- West Adelaide
- Wooroora
- Yorke Peninsula
This goes through to 1887. I'll expand the list as I move on with my parliaments project. Rebecca 14:20, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
