Editathon June 17

edit

Just a heads-up that as part of an editathon I'm leading on June 17, new editors might be making some edits to this article. I'll be following up shortly afterwards to check for copyright compliance and other quality issues and will clean up stuff if needed. Update the lead pictures?

edit

Hi guys. I know this is a difficult question and it took a long time to reach consensus to select the current 5 pictures in the lead. However, the January discussion above and the updating of the top selling models that I just finished make me wonder that the lead should have at least one Chinese manufactured EV (one among the top selling ones, meaning a BYD or the GAC Aion). In addition, the Jaguar I-Pace is a very nice-looking car but only has sold 60,000 units. My specific proposal is the following:

  • I propose to change the Jaguar I-Pace picture in the lead for one top selling EV from a Chinese manufacturer, and put to consideration the following options:
Select one pic for use in the lead image instead of the Jaguar I-Pace EV400
BYD Yuan Plus in front of charger #1
BYD Yuan Plus in front of charger #2

Any of these options can be trimmed or retouched of course. Please express your opinion below, or even propose other candidates accompany by the rationale of your proposal (for example, the BYD Tang is selling well and illustrates a full size electric SUV).--Mariordo (talk) 00:45, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Select one pic for use in the lead image instead of the Jaguar I-Pace EV400
BYD Tang charging #4
BYD Tang charging #5
Any of the BYD pics look fine to me. The GAC is a generally fine pic but looks like any other car on the road - ie the image doesn't show the electric nature of the car.  Stepho  talk  11:00, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
It has been more than a week and participation in the discussion has been limited. So, I will go ahead and substitute the Jaguar I-Pace for the BYD Tang. Image #4 is the one that fits better with the other images. Feel free to reopen this discussion at any time, but please, do not change the lead images without seeking consensus here.--Mariordo (talk) 23:33, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

What do you look for when picking which pictures to use?--HereForAnth (talk) 21:43, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
The image must be able to show that this is an article about electric cars, not just an article about ordinary cars. A picture of an electric car (eg a Tesla or a Nissan Leaf) might seem like it does this but to most people it looks like an ordinary car and therefore does not emphasis the electric part. Looking for images showing cars with electric motors, electric batteries, charging plugs/sockets, at charging stations, etc. If we have a group of images then some of them can be of the more popular electric cars, as long as there are other images in the group that also specifically show the electric nature.  Stepho  talk  22:19, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, I second the choice of the BYD Tang (#4).  Mr.choppers | ✎  03:19, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Inclusion of the trolleybus

edit

I removed '* In 1882, Werner von Siemens presented the world's first trolleybus in Berlin' but should it be included? Darrelljon (talk) 10:01, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
