Journalist?
editWhy does the article call him a "journalist"? If the reason is, that he started the The Herald of Gospel Liberty in 1808, which he claimed (in his autobiography) to be "the world's first religious newspaper", then that does not suffice to call him a journalist. Many religious leaders published religious magagzins. That does not make them journalists. Is there any other indication that he was a journalist, aside of being a clergyman? - He is called "the father of religious journalism" in this biography: https://archive.org/details/eliassmithreform00burn/page/n3/mode/2up Mendelo (talk) 18:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
Physician?
editDid he have a medical degree from somewhere? Was he involved in a medical practice in some sense? If not, why is he called a physician? Mendelo (talk) 17:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, the book The American physician, and family assistant was written by an Elias Smith, called "Physician", who was born and died in the same years as clergyman Elias SMith. This seems to suggest that he is the same person. https://archive.org/details/63620240R.nlm.nih.gov Mendelo (talk) 17:48, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
