– I strongly object to the procedure of translating names that are not titles, for headlines and designations. This organisation is not really an authority and institution with a set function explained by its name. It's an interest organisation with a rather arbitrary name, a lobby of sorts, whose sole purpose is to bring the voices of all clubs in the top two league tiers into one when communicating to SvFF, and therefore not to be translated, just as club names are not translated. In other words, this organisation has a name rather than a title. The meaning of a name (translation) can be mentioned in the article, but not used as a designation. They also do not work internationally and thus have no need for a translation.
By contrast, Svenska Fotbollförbundet (SvFF) is an institution and governing body with a clear purpose to organise leagues, national teams and football in general in Sweden, which is implied by the name, and could therefore be translated in its designations (which is Swedish Football Association). SvFF also works internationally and thus has a need to translate their title and position. Almost every country on earth has a football association with the same functions. - Oppose - this is the English-language Wikipedia and so we use the commonly used English-language name - hence why we have an article at Swedish Football Association and not Svenska Fotbollförbundet. GiantSnowman 08:35, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. These names appear to be the most common in English-language text.Sjö (talk) 09:54, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. It should also be noted that (at least for SEF) the English name is not just a commonly used translation in media, it is (was, see below) the official English name of the organisation, used for example when they post news in English (see [1] from 2018). Though I now see that they might have switched their English name, as later news use "Swedish Professional Football Leagues" (see [2] from 2019). And SEF definitely does work on the international level, as they are a member of multiple international organisations (e.g. European Leagues and World Leagues Forum) – Elisson • T • C • 18:22, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose Don't understand why it needs to be moved. The average English speaker doesn't know how to spell "Elitfotboll" in Swedish. Plus, the English name is more commonly used so I veto this move request. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 23:12, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
