Elizabeth BlountBessie Blount — She is usually known as Bessie rather than Elizabeth. The other person sometimes known by this name is often known by her married name, although she should be treated as a hatnote. | Relisting billinghurst sDrewth 13:52, 22 July 2010 (UTC) | PatGallacher (talk) 14:02, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Disagree in that the first two scholarly sources I consulted call her Elizabeth. Following the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography on this is a good idea. Charles Matthews (talk) 19:48, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unscientific search of archive.org seems to favour Elizabeth Blount. billinghurst sDrewth 13:52, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Origin regarding "Bessie"?

edit

Was there a reason for why Elizabeth Blount was known as "Bessie Blount"? Was this a common nickname or short form of Elizabeth during the time period? It seems like a personal nickname and not a given one if her popular saying by the people was "Bless 'ee, Bessie Blount". A3ec6fYprq (talk) 03:25, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

It is a common nickname for Elizabeth but "Bless 'ee, Bessie Blount" is presumably just their way of blessing her fertility and Elizabeth was too long or didn't fit the rhyme or rhythm. Uh Kay Shuh (talk) 03:03, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is also alliterative with her surname, which makes it different to using 'Elizabeth' or other variants like Lizzy. Sbishop (talk) 10:05, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Clarification in First Paragraph

edit

Should the last sentence of the first paragraph clarify that Henry Fitzroy was the son of Elizabeth Blount? When I first read it I wasn't sure if Fitzroy was the son of Blount or a relative. It is clarified in the second paragraph when it is noted that Blount had an affair with Henry VIII, but it might be beneficial to make it crystal clear at the get-go. Henry relationship with his son

edit

I was curious if there is any type of documentation about what kind of relationship Henry had with Henry FitzRoy TeddyRooFan1! (talk) 00:07, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Blounts relationship with the king

edit

I think the article could help from more information about how the king and Blounts relationship started. As well as, if possible, elaborate on Blounts relationship with her son with the king. I do like the inclusion of that fact she was not buried with either of her husbands. I wonder why that is? Mia1199 (talk) 17:39, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

More citations

edit

Some parts in the later life and importance sections could use more citations, though it seems that information on Elizabeth Blount is somewhat limited, so it might be difficult finding credible sources. Chillfroi (talk) 22:56, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
