I looked on Ancestry for any records relating to Ellen Stone.
In the 1930 Census, she is living in Teaneck, New Jersey (in the same county as Bogota) as the stepdaughter of Arthur W Conner. Her mother was a Isabell Conner at the time. Arthur was a 50 year old insurance broker originally from Indiana, as were his parents. Isabell was a 45 year old housewife originally from New York, her parents were from Wisconsin. Ellen is listed as Ellen E Stone and her biological father was born in New York.
In the 1940 Census, she is living alone in New York City. Her occupation is musician in an orchestra and it states that in 1935, she was living in Oberlin which fits with the article.
