Early life and education
editIs it odd that we say Elliot's mother is 'Irish Catholic', then later that '[b]oth pairs of ... grandparents emigrated ... from ... Romania'?
I checked out the footnote for this fact and couldn't gather anything from the (Google translated) text -- the WebArchive may be incomplete.
Think we can go out on a limb and say his paternal grandparents are from Romania?

editPlease forgive me, I haven't edited a talk page before. I believe it is incorrect to mention Jerry Goldsmith as Goldenthal's contemporary, because the first was born in 1929 and the latter in 1954! ----RichardKleiner
- How so? doesnt contemporary mean that whilst Jerry Goldsmith was alive and making music for film that Elliot Goldenthal was also doing the same thing, ergo contemporary...Terrasidius (talk) 17:31, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
PHEW!
editOk i spent most of my day adding to Elliot's page, ive cleaned up his page a bit to make it more presentable and have created pages for his non-film score work aswell exampli gratia 'Othello' et al. Is there some kind of wiki badge of recognition for dedication to like an artist or something?! :D will continue creating new pages for his other non-film stuff later, im going to bed soon! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Terrasidius (talk • contribs) 04:44, August 26, 2007 (UTC)
Done more
editIve been editing this page and (mostly) the individual score pages for a wee while now and their coming along! :) Terrasidius (talk) 02:59, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
New Section
editWill be adding a new section under the Bio section detailing his style and influences further quite soon (in my spare time in the next month or so, hopefully), for the benefit of readers, hopefully making it good enough to be "Good Article"! :D. Terrasidius (talk) 21:16, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- UPDATE on this particular point, I will be doing this soon; I have been working hard on FSOL related pages but I am pretty much finished with this until new releases come out. Have not done anything really substantial with Elliot related pages for a while, just small bits here and there and keeping an eye on it obviously, but now I will type up a draft of the above mentioned section soon and enhance the article with it asap. :) ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 19:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
"Batman Film Series..." Navbox
editReally I dont think its appropriate to have that navbox there, its Goldenthals main page and his navbox should take "centre stage" as it were, he only composed one (technically) batman score! i removed it once before and provided an explination (the same one as im providing now) when the box was being considered for deletion (i voted to keep it, because its comprehensive)! I kept it in the Batman Forever Score page however because its related to batman for goodness sake...
I will remove it and point to this rationalé, please feel free to comment. ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 22:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
New section UPDATE again...
editJust created the new "Style" section and will expand on this as much as poss. got a whole bunch of good refs too. Will try and beef up the page as a whole over the next wee while. ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 01:49, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Influence on others?
editI've read some articles which mention Don Davis' style for the Matrix Trilogy was inspired in part by Elliot Goldenthal's atonal brass. Should we mention that? --Surten (talk) 06:27, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Surten
Composer project review
editI've reviewed this article as part of the Composers project review of its B-class articles. This article is actually a decent living-composer bio; I take some issue with the sources, and some faulty fact checking. The details of my review are on the comments page; questions and comments should be left here or on my talk page. Magic♪piano 15:44, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
This article reads too much like an advertisement to me. No real criticism is noted although I came across one entitled "Death by Composer" panning a ballet score. I will try to add it this week. Lmlmss44 (talk) 04:08, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

==Composers Project Assessment of Elliot Goldenthal: 2009-02-11==
This is an assessment of article Elliot Goldenthal by a member of the Composers project, according to its assessment criteria. This review was done by Magicpiano. If an article is well-cited, the reviewer is assuming that the article reflects reasonably current scholarship, and deficiencies in the historical record that are documented in a particular area will be appropriately scored. If insufficient inline citations are present, the reviewer will assume that deficiencies in that area may be cured, and that area may be scored down. Adherence to overall Wikipedia standards (WP:MOS, WP:WIAGA, WP:WIAFA) are the reviewer's opinion, and are not a substitute for the Wikipedia's processes for awarding Good Article or Featured Article status. ===Origins/family background/studies=== Does the article reflect what is known about the composer's background and childhood? If s/he received musical training as a child, who from, is the experience and nature of the early teachers' influences described?
===Early career=== Does the article indicate when s/he started composing, discuss early style, success/failure? Are other pedagogic and personal influences from this time on his/her music discussed?
===Mature career=== Does the article discuss his/her adult life and composition history? Are other pedagogic and personal influences from this time on his/her music discussed?
===List(s) of works=== Are lists of the composer's works in WP, linked from this article? If there are special catalogs (e.g. Köchel for Mozart, Hoboken for Haydn), are they used? If the composer has written more than 20-30 works, any exhaustive listing should be placed in a separate article.
===Critical appreciation=== Does the article discuss his/her style, reception by critics and the public (both during his/her life, and over time)?
===Illustrations and sound clips=== Does the article contain images of its subject, birthplace, gravesite or other memorials, important residences, manuscript pages, museums, etc? Does it contain samples of the composer's work (as composer and/or performer, if appropriate)? (Note that since many 20th-century works are copyrighted, it may not be possible to acquire more than brief fair use samples of those works, but efforts should be made to do so.) If an article is of high enough quality, do its images and media comply with image use policy and non-free content policy? (Adherence to these is needed for Good Article or Featured Article consideration, and is apparently a common reason for nominations being quick-failed.)
===References, sources and bibliography=== Does the article contain a suitable number of references? Does it contain sufficient inline citations? (For an article to pass Good Article nomination, every paragraph possibly excepting those in the lead, and every direct quotation, should have at least one footnote.) If appropriate, does it include Further Reading or Bibliography beyond the cited references?
===Structure and compliance with WP:MOS=== Does the article comply with Wikipedia style and layout guidelines, especially WP:MOS, WP:LEAD, WP:LAYOUT, and possibly WP:SIZE? (Article length is not generally significant, although Featured Articles Candidates may be questioned for excessive length.)
===Things that may be necessary to pass a Good Article review===
===Summary=== This is actually a decent living-composer bio. It actually covers his personal and professional life, and gives some stylistic, critical, and popular commentary. I'm a bit concerned about the quality of some of the sources, and any sort of formal review (FA or GA) may question their reliability. (For example, I believe that IMDB is explicitly not considered reliable; see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard.) While there is nothing particularly wrong with using promotional photos in Wikipedia, copyrighted images like this cannot (per WP:WIAFA) be used in Feature Articles. The following line is internally inconsistent:
It is also inconsistent with the linked article, which indicates the work was premiered in 1993. (Now I, as reviewer, have to wonder how many more of these sorts of issues I will find if I probe further.) Recommend someone who hasn't previously worked on the article to fact-check it. Article is B-class; good, but not without issues. Magic♪piano 15:41, 11 February 2009 (UTC) |
