Far too long and detailed

edit

This biographical article is far too long and detailed in comparison to the artist's notability. There is a also a lack of inline references. It needs a drastic edit which I will embark on.Seaweed (talk) 14:18, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Seaweed. My name is Caroline, I am an acquaintance of Elpida. I am aware of her work, and have volunteered to update her page as a favour. I had started adding some details but you dismissed them and erased most of my edits. Please do let me know in what way they did not fit into the required format. It is particularly frustrating, for a novice, to spend some time learning how to edit a wikipedia page, adding links, tables etc... to find out that your hard work has been deleted a few days later.
I took the page of Anselm Kiefer as an example/template. I am now wary of spending more time editing her page and adding relevant and valuable information if it is to find my work has been deleted a few days later. Please let me know how I should approach this task?
Best wishes,
Caroline Carolinepellet (talk) 14:29, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Seaweed, when you have the time please can you give me some guidance on how I can edit so it is not deemed "too detailed in comparison to the artist's notability". I would like to add more information on Elpida's work but do not want to waste my time if it is going to be deleted a few days later. Best wishes, Caroline 195.195.217.51 (talk) 09:04, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Caroline. I know that editing Wikipedia can be frustrating for the novice. I struggled myself at first and can appreciate how you might have found my edits annoying. A good starting place for editing would be to take a look at the "Five Pillars" which are the foundation of Wikipedia. Regarding biographies, I think that an important concept is that of notability which has some impact on the relative length of the article. For example, Henry Moore's article is very detailed which is probably reasonable and in proportion to his career. Bear in mind that Wikipedia is not an exhaustive list or almanac of everything as person has ever done nor is it a means of promotion. Personally speaking, when I'm editing Wikipedia I tend to think of what a casual reader of Wikipedia might find useful. Therefore conciseness is important. It was in that spirit why I edited this article, because I thought it was too long. But I also copied lots of the information to this talk page in case it can be reused later. Another good Wikipedia concept is that of "Be bold". I've been editing Wikipedia for many years, so I encourage you not to be put off and carry on with your editing of this article (and others).
