History section

edit

Shouldn't the history section be moved to the first part of the article? Govvy (talk) 11:34, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reversion of unreferenced changes

edit

I have again reverted changes to this article which adjusted population numbers without completely updating the article or providing a correct reference for the given figures. The existing "2011census" reference points to numbers from 2011, not to 2021; simply changing that name does not update the reference. I've also reverted the unreferenced religious demographics info. While a reference was provided, it fails verification because the numbers given aren't in the report -- there's no mention of Elstree, in fact. -- Mikeblas (talk) 16:13, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Once more, unusable references have been placed on this page and I've again reverted them. The references given don't mention Elstree. Maybe there's some setting or special search that needs to be done before the supporting data is made available, but it's not apparent from the given references and it needs to be. Please do not re-add references that don't support the added information. -- Mikeblas (talk) 03:16, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
If you go to the link[s], and download the relevant data, which is freely available, and ctrl+f 'Elstree,' it is all there.
Try the detailed results NOT the basic results if you're having problems.
If this is too difficult I am happy to provide a step-by-step as to how to access the census results. EternalTempest (talk) 19:29, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please do, as I'd like to verify the states. Maybe I've got the wrong spreadsheet. (That's why the link should probably be directly to the spreadsheet.) Thanks! -- Mikeblas (talk) 02:12, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
You provided https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationestimates/bulletins/populationandhouseholdestimatesenglandandwales/census2021 for the population figure; that page is titled "Census 2021 rounded population and household estimates for local authorities" and doesn't have specific figures for Elstree, as it's not a local authority.
For religion, you provided https://www.ons.gov.uk/datasets/TS031/editions/2021/versions/1. That page gives figures for Lower Tier Local Authorities; a setting has to be changed to access data which includes Elstree, which requires knowledge of the categorisation of areas. Your edit does not present the data that can ultimately be downloaded, instead presenting your calculations of percentages to 0.01%, 1:10,000 from a total of 5,099, although as the ONS describes on that page, the figures may have been subjected to targeted record swapping and cell key perturbation.
As the core policy Wikipedia:Verifiability puts it, verifiability means other people using the encyclopedia can check that the information comes from a reliable source ... must include an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the material. That's a higher bar than being able to explain to a couple of editors on the talk page how to extract the information presented. NebY (talk) 12:09, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think there's some confusion: I have not provided any references here, at all. (LATER: Oh, maybe you were responding to User:EternalTempest. My vision isn't particularly good, and it's quite difficult for me to count colons or line-up indentation to see who has responded to whom. Sorry if I'm getting it wrong.) -- 13:18, 2 July 2023 (UTC) Mikeblas (talk) 13:18, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Parish level data is not yet available for the 2021 census from ONS (based on this query, it should have been released last year). Latest estimate is a mid-2020 data point of 39,963 located in this datafile pulled from here. Inomyabcs (talk) 00:49, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I again downloaded the "TS031-2021-4.xls" spreadsheet, and it contains no information about Elstree. I await your detailed instructions on how to find it. One of your edit summaries mentions "CTRL+K", but I don't know which software (or OS) you're using when issuing that keystroke. I have removed the religion section because its references fail verification. -- Mikeblas (talk) 13:24, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
