"New wave of folk metal" was a joke
editI deleted this sentence because Chrigel explained this statement was a joke and called it "ridiculous". It was ment to poke fun at the large number of weird labels that people have come up with to describe folk metal. It's particualry inaccurate since they were one of the first folk metal bands on the scene. It's also unfortunate that many people who looked them up thought this label was genuine. What language do they sing in?
editMost of their songs are in English, but not all, e.g. "Siraxta" ("Nu etnoi penna roceltont/ uo atanobi ro- sa -celtont "). Does anyone recognize it? Boris B 06:27, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- English, Gaelic, and swiss. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 123.100.89.139 (talk) 09:28, August 20, 2007 (UTC)
- There is no "Swiss language". There are four official languages in Switzerland (German, French, Italian, and Romansh); the German-speaking Swiss speak their Swiss German dialect. The quote above, however, isn't from any of these languages. It doesn't look Gaelic to me, neither - and it certainly isn't English. With some Web research, I came to the conclusion that it probably is Gaulish or something similar. Gestumblindi 05:17, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
English, Gaulish (not gaelic but is one family) and swiss-german —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.242.203.38 (talk) 15:15, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
How on Carlswark earthworks! can this Germanlooking band sing a fremd never standardised language (Gaulish) that doesn’t even exist for hundredfoldyear? And why is there no such bloody somesuch as ‘pre-Gaulish’ when it comes to you continentals/Westermost Eurasians? Barking floodgates! “pre-Celtic” is longsaid and very , very, much allowed and upwelcomed in the British isles. The band seem much Satanic/Francophone/NWO engineered and openslightly unoriginal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C7:9C97:5D01:FD12:B91A:E962:10BA (talk) 11:00, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Name
editAnyone know what their name means, or how it's pronounced? --...Wikiwøw. 16:05, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm sure I could ask a friend who's relative is in the band... 156.12.150.147 01:47, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Eluveitie means "I am The Helvetian" in Helvetic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.129.130.242 (talk) 19:25, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Helvetic was probably a language close to Gaulish. But are your sure about the meaning of the band? DaMatriX (talk) 22:01, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Never mind, it's Etruscan ;) DaMatriX (talk) 22:01, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Their name is pronounced el-vay-tee. Think about the work helvetii, only with the 'h' silent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.223.211 (talk) 03:45, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Style
editAre Eluveitie not a bit Viking Metal-like? DaMatriX (talk) 22:01, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- Based on their latest album Slania and the reviews I've read I would say they clearly play a combination of melodeath and folk metal (more specifically, celtic metal). --Nova Weaver (talk) 01:02, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Eluveitie are a bit black metal influenced, aren't they? (on Vên and some songs on Spirit...) 78.30.148.19 (talk) 19:36, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Member list
editCan somebody clean up the member list to use years instead of release titles? It's a mess right now. 216.191.79.10 (talk) 13:53, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- I dont see the point in using years album title seem fine 59.101.165.173 (talk) 02:47, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Thousandfold video year
editFor the moment ive put it as a 2009/10 as the video was released this year (2009) on their myspace but the album will be released in feb next year. Anyone disagree? 59.101.165.173 (talk) 02:46, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Evocation II
editIs there a source for this? I haven't seen anything about them actually following up on Evocation I (as much as I want them too). Can you post a source please?
- Closest I've seen so far is http://forum.eluveitie.ch/viewtopic.php?t=1189 but that was back in 2009. ThePerseid SCD (talk) 02:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- Aside from missing sources, there is something obviously wrong about that article section: "In September 2016, Eluveitie announced on Facebook that they started working on the second part of Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion. The album wasn't officially announced until a year later." The Facebook announcement date must be wrong, or the year later statement shouldn't be there? --Thorarin (talk) 23:11, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Gaulish language
editOnce Gaulish became extinct how would anyone start writing "lyrics" in the language?--Felix folio secundus 09:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Because the Romans already had to deal with the language and have apparently left enought sources to analyse it. See Gaulish language. De728631 (talk) 21:04, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
They are also Pagan metal.
editI am a new editor so I dont know how to ass a genre yet. So can anyone please add "pagan metal" to their genre? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neuty (talk • contribs) 07:07, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Okay I put their genre as pagan metal. I do not have a link to that, if someone would like to find one at some point that would be cool 72.5.59.140 (talk) 01:36, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
