This article and its uses
editDear @Arudoudebito:,
I've been writing Wikipedia articles on academic books used as sources, partly to have articles about them, but also to help teach editors what the reviewers say about the book so the Wikipedians may consider whether, and how, to use the book as a source. Some reviews of other books I have read indicate minor errors (can be noted, but people can still use the book), or serious issues (say Hmong: History of a People).
So far the reviews say great things about this book, and I think Wikipedians will be wise to use it as a source. This of course will also serve as an article about the book itself, standalone from your biographical article.
Greetings! WhisperToMe (talk) 21:41, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- Dear @WhisperToMe:,
- Thank you for your synopsis of Embedded Racism. Could you also include the concept of Wajin, as defined in the book, since it is fundamental to the thesis? Thank you. Debito Arudou Ph.D. (Talk) 16:39, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Arudoudebito: let me check the reviews to see if Wajin is discussed in any of them (as articles are meant to be based off of the secondary sources). If it is I can include that too WhisperToMe (talk) 16:46, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hosoki indeed brings up the concept of Wajin so I will use him as a source. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:49, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Done - The concept of Wajin today is at Yamato people. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:53, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

- Dear @WhisperToMe:, Thanks. Can you also briefly discuss the concept of Visible Minorities (since it is in the book title), and how racialized power flows in Japanese society between Wajin and Non-Wajin? Thank you. Debito Arudou Ph.D. (Talk) 17:26, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Dr. Arudou, I brought up the concept of the visible minority and how that group can be racially discriminated against regardless of citizenship. Hope this helps! (BTW I'm flying to Haneda from Hong Kong tomorrow for the Chinese National Day holiday) WhisperToMe (talk) 17:48, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- D'oh! Yes you did. My word-search term was too specific and missed it. Many thanks, and safe travels. Debito Arudou Ph.D. (Talk) 18:04, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

- Dear @WhisperToMe:,
- Please note that there is a completely updated and revised Second Edition of this book out now, including a new cover. You might want to update this wiki to reflect that. https://rowman.com/ISBN/9781793653956/Embedded-Racism-Japan’s-Visible-Minorities-and-Racial-Discrimination-Second-Edition
- Many thanks.Debito Arudou Ph.D. (Talk) 19:34, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Added that there's a second edition. I'll think about whether the cover should be replaced. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:56, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Just asked at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Books#Should_an_article_have_the_cover_of_the_newest_edition? WhisperToMe (talk) 21:56, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- I learned Wikipedia:WikiProject Books/Images states that normally the first edition cover is preferred WhisperToMe (talk) 01:39, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- Understood. But as you can see on entries dealing with, for example, music albums and singles with different versions by country or release, you can have multiple images. May I suggest that you include both? Thanks. Debito Arudou Ph.D. (Talk) 17:21, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- If you like you may state your argument at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Books#Should an article have the cover of the newest edition? and other editors can consider the case. Wikipedia:Non-free_content_criteria calls for a minimal number of items, so I am not sure if other editors will agree to have two covers. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:42, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
