William Hawes
editThe William Hawes now mentioned in the article was the brother of Benjamin Hawes. The one who helped Elizabeth Garrett was a governor of Middlesex Hospital: various sources say he was a doctor or surgeon, but as far as I can see that doesn't check out. What else William Hawes did is somewhat obscure to me, but there was a "William Hawes, Esq." of the period who was involved with boards and learned societies generally, so likely it is him. William Hawes (1805–1885) now exists. Shouldn't be much doubt about the identification. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:00, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
