Trying to correct image
editThe image and signature on this page are mistakenly those of Emil Ábrányi the Poet (https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81br%C3%A1nyi_Emil_(k%C3%B6lt%C5%91)). (The same wrong image is also used in the Hungarian version of the page: https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81br%C3%A1nyi_Emil_(zeneszerz%C5%91)). I have written to the source cited, asking them to correct their error (and have sent them a true image of Emil Ábrányi, the composer) I have uploaded the correct image to Wiki Commons: Ábrányi_Emil_1882-1970.jpg This image is owned by my family and was taken in December 1968.
I have tried to update the page and change the image, but without success (not sure why it was rejected) and need help. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Babranyi (talk • contribs) 13:32, 15 January 2017 (UTC) Babranyi (talk) 13:53, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Babranyi: There is no authenticity to your claim that the image you are adding is correct. Google search results also show the same person as in this article. If you believe the image is not of the person mentioned in this article, then please provide a reliable source to prove that the image you are trying to add is the correct one. — LeoFrank Talk 14:01, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
@LeoFrank: I understand. I have written to the website original cited and they have agreed to correct their mistake within 24 hours. If that happens will that then be a "reliable source"? (Out of interest, if this image has not been previously published, does that mean I cannot add it to Wikipedia?!). Thank you! Babranyi (talk) 14:07, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Babranyi: If you have written to the cite, that alone may not prove the image is right. I'd suggest you to take this to the project talk page and discuss there. — LeoFrank Talk 14:11, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
@LeoFrank: Thank you for your patience and sorry for being such a noob for the moment... Babranyi (talk) 14:14, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- I think the discussion belongs here. The source that says this photo is of the son does not appear to be WP:RS, so I don't think we have any reliable knowledge of who this is. Personally I am inclined to believe Babranyi, as I don't see any immediate benefit to anyone from misidentifying it.
If the photo was published at the time it was taken, the copyright has expired and it is now public domain. If it has never been published, it's a bit unclear, but I would think you could publish it yourself and license it for use on WP. Also I'm wondering how it ended up on that web site if it has never been published.Never mind, I think you were talking about your 1968 photo? The copyright status is unclear to me. It's incorrectly tagged as being from 2017. Do you know if the photographer's name, Béla Emil Ábrányi Szabó, is correct? I suspect that's you, not the photographer. Here is a source that shows what appears to be the same man and identifies him as the father: [1] I can't tell how reliable this source is, but it seems to be better than the English fan site. Kendall-K1 (talk) 18:12, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
This one is interesting too: [2] It's the same photo and includes a caption or inscription, which I can't quite make out. Kendall-K1 (talk) 18:15, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
