Date of birth

The best indication of her date of birth I could find was at the end of a video clip of one of her performances dated oct 2007. Her age was stated as 6 years 1 month75.119.236.176 (talk) 19:47, 15 January 2009 (UTC)micro

NPOV

This article fails WP:NPOV at spots. I have just removed "besides her extraordinary talent at the piano". Many people, including myself, think her talent is extraordinary, but the article needs to be written from a neutral point of view. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 03:44, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, but I don't see any reliable source supporting the biased statement "of the more difficult, 20th Century genre, including jazz". It seems that the best way to include such descriptions may simply be find a reviewer and quote them. Then you can say so-and-so stated in his review of such-and-such a date and publication stated thus or words to that affect. As I have tried to explain, we NEVER put External links into the bodytext of articles.
The bot which previously removed them from the external links section was quite right - YouTube is very rarely an appropriate, or reliable, source for information.
Interviews are not generally considered reliable sources - we are not very interested in what Emily Bear, says about herslf, we are only interested in what reliable, independent sources say about her.
The rules on the English Wikipedia are slightly different from those on the German, but you need to avoid ANY external links in the bodytext, and avoid interviews, be they on YouTube or anywhere else.
I also note that on my talk page you said "I know the persons" if that means you have a conflict of interest? you should not be editing the article at all - Arjayay (talk) 19:03, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Please cite sources inline for these large swaths of new information if you have it available and if you could please proofread the changes as there were several grammar mistakes. I was this user. I wanted to proof but most of them are serious!!!! , and official account , youtube links, so they were deleted. As I wrote on the bots ralk page some minutes ago. some proofs for the updated facts werecstill there (chicago ideas links) but the german Sat 1 docu is on youtube, the Dennis Green radio Interview is on,y on youtube, the interview with Steven Larsen is only on youtube, the Queen Latifah Gig is only on youtube. I really don't know what to do. I really wanted to update this article in the modtvserious way, with the most serious neutral!!! as possible (nothing is neutral!)) proofs, These are all vers serious journalists, musicisns, hosts. If you don't beliveve me ask them.

I really don't know what to do. Does wikipedia want a serious proofed article or not?

Some hours ago I thought. Hey..put all the problematic links in the external links field before updating the facts. Seconds after that - deleted... My suggestion -please reach out by yourself to thrm, you have all the information, there is alread an existing german article updated by myself,

English wikipedia has really to decide if they want serious articles or not. I know wikimdoes not like youtube but what would wiki do if the next presidential debate was only available on youtube?

I disagree with Softlavender. That link is extremely helpful, and I just added it to the article. This article sucks very badly -- it is shameful that this important young composer has such a haphazard and poorly researched article. First studio album?

I don't know how her earlier albums were recorded. Diversity was recorded in spring/summer 2012 in LA produced by Quincy Jones in the same studio he produced Bad(Michael Jackson). Emily Bear played on a Steinway. Imdon't know the excact dare but I think there was also a Spotify event where Quincy Jones was interviewed by Bruno Mars. She played in front of the audience. Diversity was released by Concord records. So after some consideration they added some cello parts for some pieces. Her new EP "Into The Blue" was recorded in NYC early September 2015, the mixing also NYC October 2016. I don't know if it is an independent release or who produced ot. She by herself, or with some help by Quincy Jones. There was a prerelease in therecent days but as I have not got a CD yet, so I do not know the label etc. She is not listed as Quincy Jones artist in the moment but he still is her mentor and made promo on facebook for the prerelease. Revising the article

Starting a new section about this: the article is not in very good shape at the moment, it contains a lot of minor detail about individual performances, it is not very well organised, and too much of it is currently sourced to primary sources. Because the subject of the article is a minor, it's extra important to get the article in shape so that it at least meets Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. It would also be nice if the article weren't quite so difficult to read - some of that can be fixed by simply reorganising the material and creating sections, but it would be a bit of a wasted offort to do that before some of the undue detail has been removed. I think one question that has to be addressed is which of the many performances and interviews mentioned in the article are notable and relevant to include; one strategy might be to focus on those that are covered in secondary sources. I don't have any interest in the subject matter, but I do have an interest that the article not get any worse than it is now. It's a frustrating mess, and almost WP:TNT-worthy. I have no particular interest in the subject, I came because of spelling mistakes appearing on my check-list, but got pilloried because I then reverted the 20+ External links that had been added into the body text.
Provided the Dates and performances section is removed, and the family trimmed, I'm not sure there was much wrong with this version before the SPA tried to shoe-horn every passing reference they could find into the article. The old version has coherent paragraphs, rather than the unbulleted list we currently have. Arjayay and Softlavender, I didn't mean to imply that either of you had a specific interest in the subject as such, but if you are anything like me, it's the messed-up articles about subjects you've never heard of that engage you the most - oh, all right, maybe it's just me. :-) But we all agree that the current BLP violating state of the article has to be fixed. Restoring an earlier version sounds like a good plan. Eifelochse, please try not to sound quite so combative. Eifelochse, we cannot use wikis. We need references to third party news and magazine articles published by reliable sources. We don't want to use puff pieces, like the "catching up" article you cite above. Moving forward

Eifelochse, I am happy to work with you to improve the article. The biggest problem that the article has currently is the large number of bare references. If you would like to work together, would you please list here the top 3 (for now) things that you think are missing from the article? If she always plays with the same trio, I would think that one of these is more info about the Trio and (just a few of) the most important concerts they have played. Also, if you can, would you please help fill out the bare references (urls) by adding (1) the name of the author, (2) the title of the article or work cited, (3) the name of the publisher, (4) the date of publication. Peter Slavov always bass, he seems to be a froend of family, in Stuttgart Mark Mc Lean played only the first 2 concerts, because he had an own concert on Saturday in Canada. The lasr concerd there wa also 2 times replacement because he had many gigs with Michael Feinstein. But Emily Bear references him to her trio, on her new EP, -- Eifelochse

I think tthat one of the two New Haven Symphony is not needed,text is a bit confusing at this point., I am German but normally I have no problems to read english context. Emily Bear performed Gershwin, 2 times with NHS (first at Schubert Theatre, than at a High School?) than in November Winnipeg, than on December 24 in Santa Fe, where it was officially recorded. 2 years earlier, same place, same orchestra Schumann first movement recording. No problem, I corrected and added infos on Santa Fe concerts. Bear never conducted. I know there was an article where it was mentioned but she did not. On the evening one harpist got ill so she had to fill in some harp parts on the piece "Santa Fe" with her piano. If it was really planned that she should conduct????

as I wrote earlier Art on Ice should be put in, and the Jazzopen Stuttgart should be really extended. It was Bear's most important jazz performance. In her first concert she opened for David Sanborn, next day her own headline concert and on Saturday she opened for the french singer Zaz. Old Office was composed during the rehearsals for Stuttgart concerts in a building in NYC called the Old Office. So compared to the rest it has really to be extended IMHO. I know that it was in Germany but compared to that, the Hollywood Bowl concert even her short gigs in Montreux were peanuts. I had already seen and cited the Hollywood Bowl bio, but it is not a very good source, because it is self-written. We need independent sources. As I stated earlier Bears problem in the US is, that through the Ellen Show appearances many put her in the prodigy cliche. Therefore it was a totally different experience for her in Stuttgart. I was at the Bic concert. She simply rocked the stage with her trio, 3 encores. Many people hadn't known her betore. Even more the day before - most of them wanted to see David Sanborn. I don't want to make a great discussion, but IMHO its more reliable - the review- -as many "reviews" made in casting shows, thats only promo or mostly scripted trash - if one get always a dollar for "you are a star" ... ;) , or citing unknown assistant professors ;)

If it were The New York Times, I'd cite the review, but I don't think this adds anything. George W. Harris is not this reviewer, but a dead soldier. The review is also poorly written: "sophisticatedly" is not a real word. Skills do not have affinities. The language is "hipster jargon". In the interview in the 3h show Schlensoog told that when he discovered Bear he was in contacht with QJ Jones management and they decided that is was a too short jump for only 1 concert, so they decided 3 concerts , her first german concerts, kind of "Artist of Residence", they made promo with her, the SWR produced the feature (about her) "she was kind of the face of Jazzopen 2015. "Kind of" = Not encyclopedic. All of this is of interest in an article *about Stuttgart*, or maybe a book about Bear, but is too trivial for an encyclopedia article that covers her whole career. If the Stuttgart festival had made an official announcement: "Emily Bear is the Artist-in-residence of the Festival this year", then we *might* say so, although it would still be of questionable importance to this Wikipedia article. But they did not. We make it clear that she performed in more than one concert, and we give a link to the festival program. What else does the reader of Emily's article really need to know about Stuttgart? I know that the husband of Rudetzky has not a notable name, but I hope that you didn't delete it because of the word "husband" ;) They both were hosts on stage e.g. after Bears performance.Btw . Bears intro by Rudetzky and her performance is at 1:14:00ff in the embedded Live Stream in the link, but I don't know how long it works, Bear was guest in Rudetzkys Radio "Seth speaks" show on Sirius end of 2015 with her mother, as Andrea Bear and Rudetzky are childhood friends, as he tells also in the intro. But the interview was never made public after some broacasting. I removed it because he is not notable, and it is information that is trivial and tangential with respect to Bear's article. (Interestingly, he is not even mentioned in Rudetsky's article!) The fact that the subject of an article gave an interview is generally not of encyclopedic interest, unless the interview is notable enough to be written about prominently in other media or is, say, a cover article of an important magazine or other source, or unless it is cited for the purpose of revealing some important fact about the subject. Jazz is her main genre in the moment. She plays classical music, she even composes in this kind of genre, but she will neber be - as it seems now and it would also be to late now - a classical pianist.

In a interview talk with radio host Dennis Green - sorry only on youtube uploaded by him - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlfXmP6PASQ a she used first time the phrase - "classical is like putting a saddle on a wild horse" - for her. She likes jazz more and thinks that it fits her better.

At the Chicago ideas meeting there was a group talk at the end https://www.chicagoideas.com/videos/generations-of-genius she explained there that one of her role models was Vada Klaplinsky who realized when Bear was 7 after some time of classical teaching that Bear was really interested in jazz, film music and composing. So Kaplinsky made contact with jazz teacher etc. at Juilliard.

Playing classical music is kind of learning for Bear to have perfect technique but its not her goal for future as main living. See comment of Mary Sauer in WGN docu feature. She said that Quincy Jones wanted that Bear continued her classical training because he saw the value of it.

If someone at Bear's age wants to become a world renowned classical pianist he/she has to train 6h per day only classical and nothing, nothing else. And with great, great, great luck there will be sucesss.

There shall be a pop album this year or later. Classical is one of her genres but only one genres of a few. Jazz is in the moment her main genres e.g. her EP,release.

It is too early to say that Jazz is her "main" genre. Both classical and jazz are her main genres. In the past couple of years, Bear has repeatedly performed classical music, as well as Jazz, with such orchestras as New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Performance Santa Fe Orchestra and Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, she won an ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award for her classical orchestral piece, "Les Voyages", and also composed another classical orchestral piece, "The Bravest Journey", for Rockford Symphony Orchestra. Oh you missunderstood me. I did not want the classical genre to be deleted. It was just meant as support or some arguments if someone deletes the jazz genre again. My only argument about her classical is that she won't be a old fashioned typical classical pianists. If she had wanted to reach the hights of pianists like Martha Argerich she would have had to concentrate for years now 6h 7/24 on this as and as I said with big, big luck, I would as I pointed out put the genre film score/film composing in. All her classical stuff is more or less film music. Even her jazz pieces. Araignée was orginally a short movie score. Bravest Journey is a kind of movie score, it was inspired by videos of interviews with Rockford veterans which she also scored for the event. To this day Bear wrote no real tradition classic stuff, perhaps the choir piece "Peace" -and know again a choir peace (St. Antioch Church) Her earlier works were Easy Listening piano pieces. So film music would be really appropriate although she has won no Oscar yet ;) Yes I know today everything is labelled classical, pop, cross over, country. Yes Bear played classical concerts btw. she wants to play in next future only short pieces perhaps some Bach (video interview on youtube) But when it comes to composing her "classical" work is better labelled as film music. So genre: classical, jazz, film music, easy listening, would be correct. In future perhaps also pop or independent! and then not only pianist perhaps also singer. We have to wait.
