editIs this a joke? Can someone with a bit of knowledge on Chabrier write an article that discusses something other than his inappropriate dinnertime conversations?
I agree. This is only the very beginning of an encyclopedia article. Robertwalton 06:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Birthplace
editThe article says Chabrier "was born in the Marsac suburb of Ambert". As far as I know Ambert doesn't have such a suburb (or indeed any suburbs: it's a small town). There is however an even smaller town, Marsac-en-Livradois, nine km south of Ambert. Is this what is meant?
Other sources (e.g. French Wikipedia) simply say that he was born in Ambert itself.
Can anyone cast any light on this?

The French Wikipedia article has no references.
This is what Roger Delage writes in his 1999 study “Dès leur mariage célébré, Jean Chabrier et sa jeune femme s’installent dans la confortable maison du faubourg de la Masse” (p25); “…la rue ou je suis né [footnote : Elle s’appelait alors route de Marsac. En juillet 1912 elle deviendra l’avenue Emmanuel Chabrier] » (p17) and, in the chronology of his life « 18 janvier : naissance a Ambert (Puy-de-Dôme), faubourg de Marsac – actuellement rue Emmanuel Chabrier, d’Emmanuel… » (p671); these last words are used also in Delage's Iconographie musicale : Chabrier.
Rollo Myers’s book has as its first photograph ‘Chabrier’s birthplace – view from the street’ Cg2p0B0u8m (talk) 21:00, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for this very helpful reply. I know the street! I shall remove the reference to "the Marsac suburb". Richard101696 (talk) 10:56, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
