Amygdala

edit

Amygdala activation is at best coincidental in it's role with the enhancement of emotional memory recall. my basis for this statement is this: Amygdala may be used for Modulation of emotions thus playing one of many roles in emotional memory. When a patient has a temporal lobectomy for epilepsy or tumor removal, the Amygdala is also removed (often). Patients that have underwent this surgery normally always recall emotional events far more than any other, with No amygdala. They often are diagnosed with Mania or Depression (often both) after the amygdala has been removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.107.227.101 (talk) 16:47, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Suffering

edit

@Mathsci as I've repeated pointed out in edits, the phrase suffering to describe a medical condition or symptom is discouraged by the wikimedia style guide see WP:SUFFER and WP:MEDLANG. Please stop reverting my good faith edits. You are being disruptive. At worst, the changes do not harm anyone to make an article sound less offensive and less sensationalizing.

I've reproduced the exact phrasing from the Wikipedia Manual of Style WP:SUFFER.

> Choose appropriate words when describing medical conditions and their effects on people. The words disease and disorder are not always appropriate. Independently observed medical signs are not self-reported symptoms. Avoid saying that people "suffer" from or are "victims" of a chronic illness or symptom, which may imply helplessness: identifiers like survivor, affected person or individual with are alternate wordings. This page is not a forum. Please use this page for discussing content, not editors. Copy-pasting guidelines in a bot-like way is not the way editing happens. Using a macro to search for terms like "suffering from" is arbitrary and prone to error. According to the five pillars of wikipedia, the normal editing process involves finding WP:RSs, reading and absorbing that content, and then summarising them so that they can be verified. Your bot-like macro is a way of circumventing that editing process and WP:consensus. Repeating the vague guide lines WP:SUFFER or WP:MEDLANG in edit summaries shows that mainspace content is not being discussed in the usual way, but in a quasi-automated way that does not require reading or checking sources. The words "suffering from" have no perjorative connotations in this context and are part of the English language. Mathsci (talk) 03:15, 11 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
AWB is designed and approved to implement style guidelines. Updating the language of articles to be consistent with wikipedia style guidelines is also part of wikipedia. The guidance is extremely clear that the phrase "suffering" to describe medical conditions is problematic and should be rewritten. I am using a macro to flag phrases and then edit them. Just because you do not like my editing workflow does not warrant you reverting my edits. The phrase suffering does have pejorative connotations. Please read the guidelines on this issue.
