This article seems to be missing a lot of information. There is a long biography on www.eoincolfer.com that I think should be looked into. I'll add some but I would appreciate help from others too.

Shouldn't this article have another category attached to it? After all Colfer is a writer. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 12:49, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The Wish List wasn't published in 2001, but in 2003, according to its own wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.97.124.201 (talk) 08:32, 11 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions

edit

I think that there is way too much information on the Fowl series. I think this should be more of a bibliography then a review of Colfer's books. Even if it will look too minimalist with the book plot, etc. removed, but that can go into Artemis Fowl. What do you think?

Oh yes you are absolut right about this . You can help me make a page of Colfer Books. Can You help me. Thank You.

Restructure

edit

I moved the ideas and criticism behind Colfer's novels to the Works section; maybe I am wrong to do so, I don't know. Also, I think there should be minimal description of specific books (such as the Artemis series) on this bio page. That should be moved to Artemis Fowl. What do you think? User:Valerij

Drastic Change

edit

The Artemis series description,

"The main character, Artemis, from the Artemis Fowl series is a child prodigy and heir to a fortune gained largely through crime. At the onset of the series, his father (having unsuccessfully tried to go straight) is missing and his mother, distraught, is bedridden and suffers from nightmares and delirium. Artemis, naturally, does the responsible thing and formulates a fiendish scheme to boost the family fortunes (somewhat lessened in the elder Fowl's aforementioned ill-fated move towards legitimacy). Fowl Jr., along with his manservant and spookily-efficient bodyguard Butler set out to kidnap a fairy. The Fairies of myth and legend, who call themselves "The People" (Artemis deduces from some web-surfing) have been in hiding deep underground since the beginning of recorded history to stay out of mankind (the Mud Men)'s wars and environmental disasters. Not that Fowl would be interested but for the legends of gold at the end of rainbows. What Artemis finds, though, is that while fairies were out of sight they have largely replaced magic with advanced technology."

It bothers me very much :) - I believe this should be in the Artemis Fowl, not in the author's bio. If people don't like my edit, you can always change it back ;)

Quick-failed Good Article nomination

edit

This may be confusing, as the nominator did not properly complete the nomination by placing the appropriate template on this talk page. However, the nomination listing was given on the candidates page. I have quick-failed the nomination, as the article contains not a single citation to the references, and the only reference is a list of published works. An article should have reliable, secondary sources, not just primary ones. This is especially egregious considering that this is biography of a living person, which demands the highest quality of sourcing in order to prevent possibly libellous claims. Please feel free to renominate the article once you have completed any necessary improvements. If you feel this decision was in error, you may seek a reassessment. Thank you for your work so far, VanTucky Talk 21:23, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Niall is his brother.

"Eoin Colfer grew up in Wexford, Ireland, along with his four brothers, Paul, Eamon, Donal, and Niall [1]"

Fan Page

edit

Eoin Colfer is an absolute legend that was born May 14, 1965 in Wexford, Ireland

It's things like this that give Wikipedia a bad name. This is not meant to be a fan page and, in fact, just makes a mockery of the author.

Pronounciation?

edit

If someone would be so kind as to tell me how to say his name? Darksamus8 (talk) 18:26, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Eoin is pronounced Owen - See his official site. Robina Fox (talk) 19:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Too much about Fowl, and too much like a fan has wrote it.

edit

Although, I think most things are written by fans, yet it shouldn't sound like it. It all sounds too childish. Also, a hell of a lot on Fowl. Seems more like his bibliography than Colfers!

I will start rewriting it, trying to include everything that is already there, and some more. Some links to useful sites would be good, as I don't know a lot about his life etc. Help would be most appreciated.

Useful

I grew up in a very creative household where it was normal to be creative," says musician Niall Colfer. "It wasn't a big deal." Niall's delightful 11-track debut solo album, Finds, has just been released on 1969 Records. He's also crafting the soundtrack to a documentary about his brother, Artemis Fowl author, Eoin.Evening Herald. --candlewicke 03:51, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Background & Contact Info

edit

I think this article is a little sparce in the way of personal information. All it is is a list of his books, basically. I can figure as much out by logging into my local library. I thought Wikipedia was supposed to be an encyclopedia. I believe that this article should be filled out a little more, e.g. a little more about his backstory, a little bit about his Artemis Rocks tours, a little bit about the Artemis Fowl books (for others' information I do not think that a paragraph about the Artemis Fowl series is too much to add because after all those were the books that created his fame and should be tributed as such). Also, I have been looking everywhere for some kind of contact information and I can't find it on his official websites, on the AF websites, or on here. I think that this article should at least give a way to reach him. 206.251.10.21 (talk) 05:14, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Not like people shall give out personal information but yes . I think you are right. JabocJacobOhYeah (talk) 23:21, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

If You Want To Contact Him You Have To Interview HIm Or Something Like That.JabocJacobOhYeah (talk) 23:23, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I added a bit of background about the Hitchhiker's book, but this needs more. I'd perfer if it didn't even have a list--instead, a paragraph explaining the inspiration, summary, publication, etc. Glimmeer721 talk 02:26, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Linking

edit

WP:OVERLINK has "Avoid linking the names of major geographic features and locations, languages, religions, and common professions." Are we seriously catering for a readership which is unfamiliar with Ireland, so that we need to link Ireland? --John (talk) 09:22, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

WP:IRE-IRL from WP:IMOS, "When referring to places and settlements in the Republic of Ireland in the introduction to articles (and in elements such as info boxes), use Ireland not Ireland or Republic of Ireland ", both are valid forms of MOS. Ireland, the article is about the island. People are of states, the wikilink brings the reader to the state, someone would be from Haiti not Hispaniola. "Are we seriously catering for a readership which is unfamiliar with Ireland", well yes, the aim is to cater for many different levels of understanding and knowledge, not assume otherwise. I think from reading your comment you didnt know the difference between the name of the country and the name of the article of the country?Murry1975 (talk) 09:30, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Please link me to a project-wide consensus that "people are of states" and that Ireland should be an exception to our project-wide guidance on overlinking. Please show evidence that there is an encyclopedic benefit in pipe-linking the name of a country on every occasion it appears in an article on a novelist. --John (talk) 09:37, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
So people are from landmasses? I think you will find a state or country on every bio. And if you took the time to read the guideline you would know its not everytime. In the lead and infobox (and common sense should indicate the rest). Murry1975 (talk) 09:47, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Common sense, ah yes. To me, common sense would point out that Wexford has a link to Republic of Ireland, for those curious about the political status of this novelist's birthplace. And WP:OVERLINK embodies this project-wide "common sense". It's an interesting contention that there should be a link to "a state or country on every bio"; can you point me to a discussion where this supposed practice is discussed? Because I know that the opposite is true and that whenever this is discussed, thoughtful and experienced editors agree to avoid this type of overlinking. --John (talk) 10:00, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
John dont misqoute me, again doing so you are being a dick, where did I say "link to a state or country"? Again failure to read on your part. You can try to talk down all you like John, but you can either discuss it here or at IMOS. Murry1975 (talk) 10:08, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

A Fowl Tale

edit

Colfer did a short story called A Fowl Tale for Wizards: Magical Tales from the Masters of Modern Fantasy. It's missing from the page, but I didn't know where to put it... 120.61.175.177 (talk) 07:45, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
