Bishop
editEpidote can also be found in the Tungsten Hills area of Bishop California. This area is where Tungsten was mined up through the 1940's. It is found with quartz crystal and red garnet along the ore interfaces.
The area is on BLM land with public access allowed. Most of the larger quartz crystal specimens have already been removed by rock-hounds. The epidote and garnet is readily reachable in some areas. Other areas will require a skilled spelunker with special gear to reach. The rock in this area crumbles easily, being made of very decomposed granite. Some mines are flooded or have flooded passages.
Be very careful, since the tungsten mines are in a state of dis-repair and infrequently visited.
