Eric Lee (footballer) → Eric Lee (British football) — There is an article Eric Lee (Canadian football), so "footballer" seems ambiguous 64.229.101.119 (talk) 03:56, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
- Oppose as unnecessary. There is now a hatnote on this article, so anyone landing here by mistake can get to the Canadian player's article as quickly as they would from a dab page. Station1 (talk) 20:00, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Support; the move would add consistency to page names, and consistency helps viewers read the wikipedia. Snowman (talk) 00:02, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Neutral on whether to move but against (British) as a disambiguation extension because football (soccer) is governed by bodies representing the constituent counties of the UK, so if the article is to be moved it should be to Eric Lee (English footballer). -- PBS (talk) 00:30, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Weak oppose, seems unnecessary, as Canadian football players are not called "footballers", and there's a hatnote anyway.--Kotniski (talk) 12:06, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- Any additional comments:
- Strictly speaking, it's not ambiguous, because "footballer" is not a term in common use for gridiron football players. Particularly on Wikipedia, it is only used to refer to soccer players. However, I can see the ambiguity argument from the POV of someone unfamiliar with the conventions. Powers T 13:36, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- If it is moved then it should be to Eric Lee (English footballer) for consistency with other articles. -- Necrothesp (talk) 23:40, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- He appears to have played in the Welsh Cup. Snowman (talk) 12:48, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Indeed, but he was English and played for Chester, an English club. Until 1996, some English clubs were entitled to play in the Welsh Cup. -- Necrothesp (talk) 17:20, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
