editThe article has been tagged with {{Db-nonsense}} which I consider a bad judgment. This case currently headlines all Norwegian news media and has for days. I am going to finish the translation work now. __meco (talk) 19:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- It also has reached international news media attention as well. --AndersL (talk) 21:59, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Identification
editThe case has now been thoroughly investigated for 1,5 years, and the suspect has been formally indicted. Also, he has admitted to 20 of the cases he is charged with, the police have stated to the public they have DNA evidence which links him to the case. As such, it is hilarious to describe it as a "premature" identification after he has now been identified by the largest Norwegian newspaper (even on its front cover) and other Norwegian media.[1][2]
The media attention this case has received makes it possibly the largest criminal case since the Baneheia case. Editor-in-Chief Bernt Olufsen (Verdens Gang) points out that the public should know the identity of Erik Andersen because of the scale of the crimes[3] - according to the Police the suspect has abused hundreds of children for decades. A comparable case is the Fritzl case, where Josef Fritzl was identified a long time before he was actually convicted. Was the identification before his conviction a year later "premature"?
The only reason not to identify the indicted in this case, not harming the investigation, does no longer exist, since the investigation is completed. For this reason, Verdens Gang and other Norwegian media chose to identify him. His identity is a highly relevant fact with solid references that cannot be removed without reason.
There are no legal issues either, since the press has the right to identify suspects in criminal cases in Norway.[4] Ola-Tore (talk) 16:03, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- The case is one Norwegian newspaper has reported the name, and given that all other Norwegian newspapers has refused to publish the name I don't think it is wise to republish it. Note that the lawyers for person in question has expressed very clearly and strongly that they do not support the newspapers action. The user Ola-Tore has several times tried to publish the name at the Norwegian (bokmål) version, and has been refused to do so. If this version chooses to publish the name it should be prepared to handle the case. Thanks for your time. Jeblad (talk) 16:38, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Untrue. Verdens Gang (Norway's largest newspaper) and Bergens Tidende is "one"? I think the opinion of the defense lawyer is irrelevant, if Wikipedia should be dictated by defense lawyers, we wouldn't have identified Josef Fritzl or any major criminal either. "If this version chooses to publish the name it should be prepared to handle the case" - please tell us: which case? Is this a threat of some kind? Ola-Tore (talk) 16:42, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think Jeblad is alluding to the possibility that legal action may be taken against Wikipedia from the accused individual and his counsel. Very far-fetched and basically irrelevant as the inclusion of the name of the defendant is supported by this Wikipedia's guidelines. I.e. the whimsical policies and guidelines of the Bokmål (Norwegian) Wikipedia do not apply here. __meco (talk) 16:56, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, also see [5] where Bernt Olufsen points out that the press has the right to identify suspects in criminal cases. As such, there would be no basis for a legal action whatsoever. Also, the police have made it clear they have no objection to the suspect now being identified, they only asked the press to refrain from identification during the investigation, which was completed in May. Ola-Tore (talk) 16:58, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Bergens Tidende has an article in its paper edition today (Aug 23, 2009) (see [6]) called "Sjefredaktøren om hvorfor BT identifiserer Erik Andersen" - the Editor explaining why the newspaper identifies the suspect (not available online at the moment). Ola-Tore (talk) 17:41, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Those "whimsical policies and guidelines of the Bokmål (Norwegian) Wikipedia" lead to permban of Meco a few years back. Anyhow its interesting to see two users with so completely opposite interests argue for inclusion of this kind of information. Anyhow, this project is informed - also through other channels - and Ola-Tore and Meco can do whatever they want, its not my responsibillity anymore. Jeblad (talk) 17:59, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- You do have a penchant for backchannels, don't you, Jeblad? These open discourses where everybody is allowed to weigh in really isn't your cup of tea. Why don't you state openly what these "other channels" are? I suppose Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard is one of them? Are there others, or would you rather not tell? __meco (talk) 08:54, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- «Ola-Tore and Meco can do whatever they want, its not my responsibillity anymore.» Has it ever been your responsibility? --Harrywad (talk) 01:06, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Update: Of the four largest newspapers of Norway, he has currently been identified by three of them (Verdens Gang, Dagbladet and Bergens Tidende). He has also been identified by TV 2 (Norway), Norway's largest commercial TV network. Ola-Tore (talk) 11:41, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Conflicting birth dates and weird wording
editInfobox says April 20th, introduction says March 20th.
Also "The police allege that "The Pocket Man" on several occasions forced the boys to perform oral sex on him."??? Why is this here? You call him a child molester so you trust his conviction, what is this "allege" word use????? Sebbog13 (talk) 21:07, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
