Thispage should be renamed from 'Amédée Mouchez' to 'Ernest Mouchez', as I did on Wikipedia (fr). Unfortunately, it is not possible on Wikipedia (en). --ArrakisFrance (talk) 15:14, 6 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
You are correct.
The true and correct name of this hydrographer, admiral and astronomer is and always was
Mouchez, Ernest Amédée Barthélémy.
He is so named in the Biographical Encyclopaedia of Astronomers ed. Hockey et al (Springer, 2007) [1]
In the universal library catalogue, WorldCat, his name is as above. [2]
In the French Amazon online bookstore there are three pages of books by Mouchez. Always he is named Ernest, never Amédée. [3]
In all versions of Wikipedia, except English Wikipedia, he is given his correct name.
The mistake seems to have arisen in a 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica article, blindly copied over into early English Wikipedia.
Since there is no apparent reason why the English-reading public should continue to be misinformed, I propose a change. Ttocserp 13:51, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
