The correct date is August 28, 1904. As well as being set out in the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History & Culture, it's confirmed by the 1904 date on his gravestone here, and by his Social Security records, SSN 444-16-8913. I don't know how they are accessed in the US, but I can access them via an Ancestry.com subscription here. It's also confirmed by his family at the Ancestry site, and in this edit.
