Birth year
editListening to WWOZ tonight (11/5/20, the 7pm hour). Action Jackson is playing a K-Doe broadcast from the vault as part of the station’s celebratory 40 day countdown to their 40th ‘birthday’. Apparently some people at the time questioned whether he was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He announced twice that he was born in “Nineteen and thirty-six,” and would have a Charity administrator on the show soon as well as frame a copy of his birth certificate to hang in the station. It appears the author citing his birth year as 1933 in this page is wrong. I don’t know how to edit and don’t have time to figure it out, so I thought I would post this here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjazen (talk • contribs) 02:41, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Agreed, I changed it 1936, as that was the year given on his memorial plaque on find-a-grave but it was reverted back to 1933. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.117.190 (talk) 03:33, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- The citation given for his birth year being 1933 is the Eagle and LeBlanc book, which is widely regarded as the most reliable source for birth details of blues and R&B performers. Memorial plaques, gravestones, etc., are not considered to be always reliable. But if enough sources give 1936, it can be added in as an alternative, with an explanation. - Eagle and LeBlanc are, in my long experience, invariably accurate but not infallible. For what it is worth, this reliable source cites 1936.[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derek R Bullamore (talk • contribs) 13:31, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

- Tsk, Derek - don't forget to sign your posts!!! This says: "Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the year Ernie K-Doe was born. He was born in 1933." Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:27, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, all! I did not know about the Eagle and LeBlanc book. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.117.190 (talk) 15:11, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
