The powdery mildew article isn't in great shape, redirecting to and expanding this page would make more sense. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 15:00, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, I'm pretty sure most of this taxon are just powdery mildews anyway.(a Mentally Efficient Loonies And Nice Insane Elephants creation 21:59, 11 February 2007 (UTC))
Wiki wiki1 06:52, 6 December 2006 (UTC)I agree, but maybe call the article "powdery mildews" anyways, just for simplicity, but still use the taxo box.
- We had the same problem in German WP, there were 3 articles ("Echter Mehltau", which means "powdery mildews"; "Erysiphales"; "Erysiphaceae") treating the same species (since Erysiphales consists of only one single family, named Erysiphaceae). We decided to preserve "Echter Mehltau", transforming "Erysiphales" and "Erysiphaceae" into redirects and expanding the taxbox to family level. 80.139.191.205 01:00, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
No need to merge
editI see no need to merge the articles of Erysiphales and Powdery mildew! The first one is a biological order and the other one is a disease caused by species belonging to that order. There are also separate articles for common cold and rhinoviruses for the same reason.
I suggest rather merging the separate articles for Erysiphales and Erysiphaceae, as they are essentially the same thing. Kaarel 20:27, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- To make myself more clear - the powdery mildew is a phytopathological syndrome (a condition of the plant), as the Erysiphales are a bunch of fungus species, many of whitch cause that syndrome during some part of their life cycle (the causative agent) Kaarel 03:12, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Reclassifying and updating powdery mildew articles
editNearly all of the Wikipedia pages about powdery mildews are enormously out of date -- judging by the species names being used, as well as the age of the above talk page sections, they are probably based on pre-2008 content. The Erysiphales doesn't even exist as a separate order according to modern fungal taxonomy! I will start trying to chip away at some of this content and have asked others to help as well, but it will take some time to make all of the powdery mildew pages accurate to today's stable classification.
