Original Research

I've now gone ahead and cut-paste all the original research over to User:Tayuke/Especially for Youth/Temp. I'll try and find sources for the content there, but there isn't alot of other sites besides the official websites themselves for the EFY program, and there not exactly too worried about a history of the program. --Tayuke (talk) 01:22, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I've now gone ahead and been able incorporate some of content removed before and added it back into the page, as well as add a list of countries where EFY has been/will be held. I now need to add the references for the new content (I know where I can get some, but I don't have the time now to hunt them all down), look at some of the older revisions of this page for anything else that could be re-added, and make the locations list look better with even flags for each of the nations. --Tayuke (talk) 23:31, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Country List

I think it might be a good idea to get rid of the list of countries from which participants have come. We can't source it, and it's almost all from personal experience. It's not too encyclopedic and doesn't add much to the article. Please add your thoughts so we can discuss and come to a decision regarding what should happen to it. Portuguese EFY Article Deletion

Hi, I am new to wikipedia, so I am sorry if I missread any instructions. I understant this is not a forum, but I would like to understant what wakes an article.

I have translated the english version of the EFY article into Portuguese because on 2010 we will have our first meeting.

Nevertheless someone marked the article for a vote stating that it did not had any interess... Can this be done even if articles in other languages already exist?

I know the article was translated into Spanish for there Wikipedia a few months back now (Seem's its also been more recently updated to keep in time with my edits), and its been fine there. EFY is one of the biggest youth conferences in the world within the LDS Church - Surely that is something towards its creditability, with the LDS Church been a global church. Perhaps trying to find support from the local LDS project in Portuguese would be best - I was about to vote for it, but because of translations, I decided not to.

As for EFY Portugal 2010, very exciting :) I'll keep an eye out for any official websites to add to this, and other language, articles! --Tayuke (talk) 00:45, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Article Deletion/Review

The proposed deletion process can be stopped by any editor for any reason. If (after there is an objection) the person who proposed deletion still feels like it needs to be deleted, they will nominate it for a full deletion debate at WP:AFD, which is a different process. Since you obviously object, I'm going to remove the proposed deletion tag. I'm also going to try to find and add a few secondary sources.

As it stands right now, this article will not survive a deletion debate. What needs to be done is that notability needs to be claimed and verified through sources. Although I attended EFY and loved it, I'm surprised this article has lasted this long the way it's written. – jaksmata 15:19, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I've reduced the amount of text used in the Locations section, just to make the article look abit neater (I never really liked the way I set it up anyway). I know of many web pages that could be added as sources; I'm just not sure which ones would be best to use, and then where they would be best suited in the article. I've gone ahead and just added in links and bookmarks I have as references and links within the article, added more information in parts, and condensed the external links area. I have more, but those links stood out to me. What would really add value to the article if we had a image within the article; It's only the copyright that BYU really enforce that's stopping myself from adding one right now. (I'll be attending two sessions in January, so I'll see what I can do) Apologizes also jaksmata for editing your signature/text - What I should of done when cleaning up the talk page is copy the source of the text, rather than copy from the talk page itself and try to fix it up myself :? --Tayuke (talk) 03:35, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Just had a quick look at the Portuguese article. Not only is there deletion debate continuing, but it seems they have a number of sources we could use, including the online version of John Bytheway Masters Thesis (Which when I found it a few weeks back was abit hesitaint to use for the article) They have also listed afew new nations that will have EFY next year - Maybe one of them might fit with the website I found last night [2] --Tayuke (talk) 03:52, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I am happy you took a look at the Potuguese article (please vote he he he). I am responsible for the Portuguese site translation and I have internal documentation with the European sessions and respective leadership including what I think is the first time in Africa (Cape Verde). How can I reference that documentation (can it be done?). I also sent an email to EFY BYU asking for outside of US EFY links (got not response). Do you guys have any better ideia? BYU won't respond to anything related to International Sessions. I used to be the Editor-in-Chief of efyTimes, which focused on gathering information on all sessions of EFY around the world - The external international links listed on this page were found over a course of month of many Google searches and translations using various terms (The UK/Ireland website, even with its simple URL, took just under 3 weeks to find through Google) for use of efyTimes and eventually this wiki article. I'd be happy to share, or anyone here for that matter who wants to improve this and other EFY articles across other wikis, my library of bookmarks relating to the EFY program (Just get in touch through my talk page, and I'll arrange something).

With regard of referencing of internal documentation, I can't see it been done, only because it is internal and not available to the general public - While we're on that point, I'm very surprised the Participant Journal references we have have last so long - The closest thing I could find over the web with those journals is a partial copy of last years staff journal: I do have a full copy of this years journals for both Participants and Staff, but it has nothing in terms of information of the history of the program, which really makes me wonder if such information existed in the journals of 2005/2006.

Looking after this page has been my main project since efyTimes has shut down, and while I haven't done alot, really there isn't alot to use. The EFY program history besides John Bytheway Masters Thesis isn't really touched upon by BYU (Atleast there not showing it anyway), and its very early years for the rest of the world. The rest of the information is pretty much relying on other websites to write up there articles and do the work of asking BYU themselves.--Tayuke (talk) 09:08, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Just wondering, can Facebook groups and old cache copies of websites (Such as that of WayBackMachine) be used as references? A few of the old national websites don't exist, but because of groups and cache the fact that sessions happened during that time can be proven.--Tayuke (talk) 04:24, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
