While the post here says that the Stadium was built in 1976, that is clearly incorrect. In fact Deportivo Saprissa used National Stadium as its home field between the early 1950s and 1972, when their own stadium, Estadio Ricardo Saprissa, was built. My impression is that National Stadium has been there since the 1930s, although some major expansions where made in the 40s and 50s. Today, both the Alajuela and Saprissa stadiums are bigger and much better than National Stadium, so the latter is never used by the Costa Rican national team nowadays. If memory serves me right, the Sele has not played in La Sabana since the qualifiers for the 1994 World Cup (although I attended the games of the 1990 WC qualifiers in National Stadium). In fact, no first-division teams used National Stadium as their main field between the time that Barrio Mexico stopped playing there (in the early 80s) and the creation of Brujas FC (in 2004).

Stadium was built in 1924. The one who wrote the article had terrible spelling, so I made some changes to avoid general embarrasment for Costa Ricans.

Under construction

edit

This stadium should be included in the list of world stadiums under construction or to soccer stadiums under construction. Can someone please do that?--190.10.76.226 (talk) 19:27, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
