editI'd like to see a good source to check the following statement: "They are influenced by artists such as The Beach Boys and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum"
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is not that old, they're from '98, Estradasphere from '99, and I don't hear a lot of Beach Boys influences in their music...

- OK
- I found a list of influences on myspace:
Some Members have been known to like the following musical acts - Taraf de Haidouks, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota, Kurt Weill, Mr. Bungle, Sam Cooke, The Tornados, Peter Thomas, Raymond Scott, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker and all the true Jazz greats, Joe Meek, Guns n Roses, Frederic Chopin, Maurice Ravel, Oliver Messiaen, The Zombies, Farmers Market, Esquivel, Meshuggah, Ivo Poposov, John Zorn (select recordings), Robert Johnson, Otis Redding, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Django Reinhardt, Jimmy Rosenberg, Os Mutantes, Stevie Wonder, RD Burman, Van Dyke Parks, The Ventures, Eminem, Ween, Phil Spector, Spike Jones, Metallica ( but only the new shit of course ), Cryptopsy, Mike Marshall, Slayer, Dragon Force, Scott Walker, George Gershwin, Secret Chiefs 3, Trey Parker, Phish, Kool Keith
- There is no Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. There is "The Beach Boys" but I think the BB are not a good representation of their influences. I think Secret Chiefs 3, "John Coltrane, Charlie Parker and all the true Jazz greats" give a better impression of their influences...

- Tim Smolens is a huge Brian Wilson fan. If you check Estradasphere's live shows available on archive.org, you'll see a few Beach Boys covers, including at least In My Room. Portions of Meteorite Showers are reminiscent of that style, as well. Tim was/is also a member of Beach Boys/80s boy band tribute/parody band ISS as a side project.
- As for STGM, I believe I've heard the band mention them a couple of times. They were label-mates on Mimicry and now on Edge, as well. Also, in the press release when they joined the latter label, Tim compares the two bands: "If Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is Rock against Rock, Estradasphere is Prog against Prog." http://www.theendrecords.com/label/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=474&Itemid=49

- You're probably right about TBB.. but I still think a jazz band or similar older bands (SC3, Mr. Bungle) reflect their influences more appropriately.
- STGM and E are similar in one way but I don't think one can say STGM has been a major influence. That's like saying Megadeth got their influences from Metallica.
- In the booklet of Destroy Erase Improve (a Meshuggah album) there is a list of influences. Earth, Wind & Fire is thw first one they name and there is Tori Amos/Nirvana/Bjork... They may be influences but they don't reflect the bands music at all. Just like TBB don't reflect E's music..

- Well, what's more important? Influences or reflections? Pele Merengue 06:02, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- ??, both are important... Emmaneul 03:36, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Defunct?
editIs this band now defunct? The edits from Sept. 2010 changed everything to past tense. "Estrasphere was..." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.28.125.111 (talk) 08:51, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
