"he was an auxiliary bishop for the Washington archdiocese, the fourth African American ever to hold this position"
(Before I ask my question, I again point out that my changes were to refer to the archdiocese, not to D.C., because the archdiocese also has 5 counties in Maryland; and to change "the" to "an", because there were 2 other auxiliary bishops of Washington when Marino held that post.
