Shift in views : 2007
editA number of commenters at Volokh Conspiracy have noted a recent adjustment in EV's tone and subject matter. Specifically, EV has been more vocal and absolutist regarding an individual right to bear arms (both before and after the VA Tech tragedy). He has also shown an increased willingness to both address and adopt substantially partisan viewpoints, especially concerning the debate on the war in Iraq, gun control, and mainstream media liberal bias.
I will collect the relevent cites from commentary on VC and other blogs as necessary. I wanted to note this now in case this adjustment continued or increased such that his views as discussed in the article needed to be updated.

editI have added to the "Early Life" section the important fact that Volokh is an alum of the prestigious Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics. Goblinshark17 (talk) 21:50, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- Correct! I was there with him (summer 1979). A point of trivia is that he was the youngest person ever to attend. Newyorkbrad (talk) 07:25, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Eugene Volokh
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Eugene Volokh's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

The same is true for people born in the U.S. whose parents were foreign citizens. They were 'natural-born subjects' under English law, and thus 'natural-born citizens' to the Framers. Kamala Harris easily fits within that category.... [No] one thinks, for instance, that [such children] are immune from criminal prosecutions or civil lawsuits. They are likewise "subject to the jurisdiction" of the United States for citizenship purposes.
I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 11:21, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
Computer Software
editIs this the same guy who created MPEX for the HP3000 as well as published the 'Burn Before Reading' article on HP3000 holes in security? Jokem (talk) 21:50, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- Don't know, and Wikipedia Talk pages are not a forum, so not really a good place to discuss it. However, if you have a source that shows Volokh involvement with other academic or career projects, please list it, as this Talk page is about improving the biography of this person. N2e (talk) 00:24, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Oh yes, Eugene in his early years did consulting for Hewlett-Packard and was considered an expert on their HP 3000 line of business computer systems. He and his father started Vesoft (VE for Vladimir and Eugene I believe) and created systems/utility tools for the HP 3000 including MPEX (MPE eXtended, a replacement command line interpreter for the MPE operating system on the 3000, and Security/3000 a replacement logon security subsystem for MPE. Both products were extremely popular and MPEX was probably sold to a majority of HP 3000 customers. Eugene spoke at a number of early HP 3000 users-group conferences, wrote/edited a number of books about the platform, etc. Vladimir was a well-known character in the HP 3000 community as well. 67.175.211.152 (talk) 21:41, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
Request for minor correction
editDear Editors: I am no longer an academic affiliate at Mayer Brown LLP, but am now at Schaerr | Jaffe LLP, see https://www.schaerr-jaffe.com/eugene-volokh. My understanding is that posting a comment such as this is the proper way for the subject of an article to ask for a modification; my apologies if I have erred on that. Many thanks,
Eugene Volokh EugeneVolokh (talk) 17:55, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Done I have made the addition of the Schaerr Jaffe affiliation. We don't have a source that you are no longer an affiliate at Mayer Brown, or being careful about the source in the article, that you were an affiliate at Mayer Brown after 2018. So if you have such a source, preferably a secondary source that clarifies the transition, or date that ended, please add it here and someone can try to clarify that information. Also, a good source that you are an "academic affiliate" at Schaerr Jaffe would be helpful, as the SJ website merely shows you have some sort of affiliation with Schaerr Jaffe, as implied by your bio there.
- And yes, a comment on this Talk page such as you left it above is exactly the best way for you to suggest a correction to this article, per our WP:COI policy. Thanks for that! N2e (talk) 00:19, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Ukranian name in American infobox
editThere is no other Wikipedia article on a living person that uses a foreign language in the infobox to depict an American citizen. Viriditas (talk) 23:03, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- That's incorrect. Flipping through any (ethnicity)-americans list will show you plenty of examples otherwise. More importantly I don't see what the issue is with writing his birth name as it was actually written. XeCyranium (talk) 23:57, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Request for update to photo and affiliation
editDear editors: While I would be delighted to look as young as I did in the photo on the page, it's been literally 20 years. Might it be helpful to use the less flattering but more accurate photo at https://www.law.ucla.edu/volokh/volokh.jpg?
Also, effective July 1, I will be Emeritus at UCLA (same title, but with Emeritus at the end); my new full-time research position (which I am already occupying) is as the Thomas M. Siebel Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Many thanks,

[Double post, sorry.]
- Thanks. I think we should use both photos as the content expands. You are unusually photogenic. Congratulations on winning the genetic lottery. Viriditas (talk) 20:40, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
