Pronunciation

edit

Does anybody know how EMEA is pronounced? DeathWeaver 18:11, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've always pronounced the letters separately, so "ee-em-ee-ay", but I don't know whether everyone does that. sjorford mmmmm 12:49, 20 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
At my work place we pronounce it "ee-meh-ah" 65.57.245.11
It is definately pronounced like a word, but its pronounced "ee-mee-ah" with the accent on the "mee". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.169.172.212 (talk) 15:23, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Eh-mee-ah 74.202.23.198 (talk) 14:54, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
As above, it is commonly pronounced eh-mee-ah. I've encountered this in meetings and, most recently, in an online IT course. 31.49.145.244 (talk) 15:37, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merge?

edit

I feel like this would be more appropriately placed in something like international business terminology, etc. An article for a term from a specific context (especially when it then has to explain how one refers to America in the same context) should be merged. Thoughts? Everyday847 03:11, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think it just needs some more content, rather than a move and merge. 31.49.145.244 (talk) 15:39, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Some criticism?

edit

EMEA is probably the most idiotic classification of regions ever. Why would you ever cluster Europe (the richest region in the world), together with Africa (the poorest)?.

The American world view can indeed seem strange to non Americans. --Ef80 (talk) 01:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Considering the events unfolding in Europe and its outskirts since last year, someone might actually be working very hard right now to eventually make the "EMEA" region much more uniform... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.207.254.5 (talk) 08:34, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
the classification is not about economic success of each country of the region. It's about timezones of financial centers. You have an office in Europe, your staff can serve customers here during normal work hours. New York and Tokyo/HongKong are comparatively very far from Africa / Middle East. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.9.96.231 (talk) 00:07, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Maybe EMEA Timezone Region. How was the EMEA designation developed? Is there a history of the 'EMEA' idea? MaynardClark (talk) 18:06, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Confusion

edit

In this edit please read Hong Kong as Vladisvostok. The time difference between this "European" city and Lisbon is +10 h. The difference between Lisbon and Hong Kong is less. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 05:56, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

History of an Idea

edit

How was the EMEA designation developed? Is there a history of the 'EMEA' idea? MaynardClark (talk) 18:06, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I believe the origin of the three global regions was from IBM and the concept quickly spread, but I do not recall when. 97.120.178.33 (talk) 17:04, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Topic confusion

edit

Hey guys, I'm currently editing the stub and i am confused as to whether the title of the stub "Europe, the Middle East and Africa" relates broadly to the continents and their relationship with one another (that is, anything on the continents can be included in the article) or whether it is confined to "EMEA" (industry specific term). Can someone please give me some direction?

Thank you! Mazz2129 (talk) 02:40, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Problematic image

edit

The image has a very roughly drawn shape on it which doesn't clearly mark countries in or out. In particular, the text says that Russia is generally included, but most of Russia is not included in the image. Stevage 02:59, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is Tajikistan in Europe?

edit

I see that Tajikistan now is placed under the Europe section of the list. Is there a specific reason for this, or is it some kind of mistake? — Ilovelisa (talk) 09:55, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
