3.6 km underground

edit

I suspect that this means the length of the apparatus is 3.6 km, and is located underground; NOT that the device is located 3.6 km beneath the surface of the Earth. I don't have a reference to correct this, however. LorenzoB (talk) 18:33, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Participating countries

edit

At the time of writing the article says there are 11 countries involved, but this is sourced to a page that lists, by my reading of it, 9 current and 3 prospective partners: https://www.xfel.eu/organization/partner_countries/index_eng.html The list in the article includes Italy and Spain but omits the UK, but on the project website all of those three are listed as "likely future shareholder[s]". The same applies to File:European XFEL countries.svg. Can anyone explain the discrepancy? Beorhtwulf (talk) 10:37, 6 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

This matter, partly played out in the edit history of the article, has been eclipsed by subsequent developments. There are now 12 members according to the XFEL website.
