Moving the page

edit

No, no, no! It must be moved to the Network. I love the contest but I'm the biggest fan of the network..! Phanuruch8555 (talk) 11:20, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

You have already been reverted once for trying to re-direct the page to Eurovision (network) rather than Eurovision Song Contest. Do you think in light of this changing the re-direct again is a good idea? CT Cooper · talk 11:28, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Phanuruch8555, I previously stated on your talk page the reasons that this redirects to the song contest. " I'm the biggest fan of the network" ain't a valid reason per WP:Primary Topic. Zzyzx11 (talk) 14:46, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm restating those reasons why Eurovision redirect to point back to Eurovision Song Contest. It is based on the guidelines found on Wikipedia:Primary topic: "A topic is primary for an ambiguous term if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other, and more likely than all the others combined—to be the subject being sought when a reader enters that ambiguous term in the Search box." The Eurovision redirect page has been that way since roughly 2008, where the primary topic for the search term "Eurovision" was the song contest, and thus Eurovision redirects to Eurovision Song Contest.

Your reasons for pointing the redirect to Eurovision (network), such as "the network made the contest, not contest make a network",[1] are irrelevant. Again, per the rules of Wikipedia:Primary topic, it is mainly based on what topic is much more likely to be searched for by users. It is not based on which topic was established first. Nor is it is based on which organization or body founded the other. Nor that you are "the biggest fan of the network". Zzyzx11 (talk) 14:59, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree with this conclusion. CT Cooper · talk 15:00, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, these reasons are invalid and not part of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.[2][3][4] Zzyzx11 (talk) 06:53, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

This redirect is improper. "Eurovision" is the network, not the song contest. Suggest editing of redirect, and disambig link to song contest on top of network article. --Janke | Talk 15:07, 1 January 2021 (UTC) Janke | Talk 15:07, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I saw it, but still feel it's incorrect... --Janke | Talk 23:35, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I believe these rcats would be appropriate:

{{Redirect category shell|
{{R from short name}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
}}

Unprintworthy because when looking up "Eurovision" you will quickly find ESC anyway. (P.S. is this protection really necessary? That edit war was ten years ago.)Jochem van Hees (talk) 13:22, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't think the protection is necessary any more, the user who edit warred has been indef blocked and globally locked anyway. I've requested unprotection at WP:RFPP/D. --rchard2scout (talk) 08:22, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  Done now that protection level has been lowered. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 09:41, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
