teaching that the Bible is inerrant
edit"The people who became the ELS chose not to abandon the teaching that the Bible is inerrant, and also had concerns regarding fellowship with those who did not share the same confession of faith."
In 1917, was inerrancy an issue? I believe that the NLCA later ELC also believed, confess and taught the Bible was/is inerrant Smith03 00:53, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- This was part of the text merged from Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary. I cannot vouch for its accuracy, nor to what point it time it refers. I know that issues about inerrancy were debated in some denominations during the 19th and 20th centuries, but not when this was an issue specifically for Lutheran sub-groups. I inserted it as part of the merge I performed as the closer of the AfD debate. If it cannot be reasonably sourced, it can be removed like any unsourced statement in any article. The statement appears to have been originally inserted by User:RikEischen, who drafted most of the hymnal article. The items in "further reading" come from the hymnal article also, and might or might not support this. DES (talk) 01:01, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply perhaps Rik has this on his watch list and can provided some additional info about it Smith03 01:31, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Doctrine of Antichrist Removal
editIs it really necessary to single out that this church teaches that the Pope is the Antichrist? Simply linking to the Confessional Lutheran or the Book of Concord page should fix this. This church believes that the Book of Concord is the correct exposition of the doctrines of Scripture, so it seems kind of silly to single out this teaching, as if it were a unique doctrine to this church. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.15.46.160 (talk) 19:00, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
