Android? Really?

edit

Whoever said "an early example of hardware independent software, e.g. today's Android operating system" does not understand operating systems. Android has nothing to do with the hardware interface. Android executes on Linux. It is Linux that provides the hardware interface. IBM was developing hardware interfaces that allowed applications to be independent of the hardware before Unix was developed. Unix's advancement was the result of the operating system being developed in a high-level language, but that is not relevant to "hardware independent software". But when was EDX developed? This article is not clear about that. There is nothing that makes it clear when EDX was first available or anything like that. Oh, sorry. now I see under "EDX & EDL" it says "in 1981, IBM announced a Series/1 & EDX based application software package". That should be easier to find, I had to search for "19" (as in the years) to find it. I think most people would care less about things like "Research moved to Building 028".
