Best times

edit

Currently there is only a single entry for the men's and women's best times. Given the times have been broken a number of times in recent months wouldn't it be better to have a list showing more entries? This would enable readers to understand changes over time and also to compare efforts as they are all made under different conditions. Davidreid (talk) 07:33, 10 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The page has now been edited to show the ten fastest times for men and women. Thanks to User:XyZAn for doing this. Davidreid (talk) 10:12, 11 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Quality of article and changes

edit

This article is currently pretty low quality.

It needs to describe the rules and conditions of Everesting more: do riders have to go up and down the same side of a hill? Who judges whether an official record is broken - are there official timekeepers or is something like Strava used? Do records need to be solo attempts or can they be in groups? I don't know any of these things from this article.

I also don't like the "Everesting highlights by country" list. First, it is entirely unreferenced. Second, what determines why an entry is made on the list is not clear. Some of the efforts listed seem to go way beyond the Everest height - so are these attempts of Everesting, or are they just a list of a big days out people have had on their bike?

My suggestion would be to:

  • Add a section which more clearly describes what Everesting is, who determines it, and the variations that riders chose to do (eg double Everesting etc)
  • Remove entirely the 'highlights by country' section. Wikipedia is not a place for athletes to list their best efforts at a challenge, however impressive many of them are: that's Strava, or the Everesting website. The 'notable attempts' can stay, within reason, and retaining the top 10 fastest men's and women's times (plus a list of the historical record progression?) is a given.

I'm minded to do some research and make those changes but given they're quite substantial I thought I'd raise it here first to get any objections/suggestions for improvement. Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 08:17, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Best times or best riders?

edit

We have two times listed for Illi Gardner, but only one for Ronan McLaughlin (also has a 7:04:41 which would be third on this list). I'm not too bothered which we go with (slight preference for recording riders' best time only), but the current inconsistency is very poor. Kevin McE (talk) 10:41, 1 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
