Okay, let me explain why I chose Image:Everything Changes (Torchwood).jpg as an screencapture instead of using either of the ones Bastique (talk · contribs) put up. The question to my mind was how best to capture the idea that Gwen has just entered this strange new world where she may not be prepared for. The key encounter in the episode really is her coming face to face with the Weevil in the Torchwood holding cell. That this is a key moment is also emphasised by the way Jack sits her down, asks her to consider that this thing she is facing is alien; and in Torchwood De-Classified both Eve Myles and Russell T. Davies discuss this as a key moment, where Jack is testing Gwen to see if she's up to snuff.

Ideally, I would have liked a two-shot where Gwen is seeing the Weevil clearly, with both in shot, but this was not an image that was actually present in the episode. What I did find, however, was almost as good - a poignant shot of Gwen looking almost empathetically at the Weevil while the image of the Weevil is reflected in the glass that separates them. This is the money shot. It's dark, it's moody, and hits the exact notes that the accompanying caption (one that I wrote, of course) is supposed to support. Not to mention that Eve Myles looks a lot more attractive in this shot.

Now, I don't want to disparage Bastique's work, but compare this to the one that he selected. It's Gwen, with pizza boxes, and the Torchwood sign behind her, and her expression is perhaps a little annoyed. And that's it. None of the above emotions come through in this.

I grant you, it's all a matter of opinion, but it's also a matter of aesthetics as well. I leave it up to people to weigh in and decide. If you guys want Bastique's image, hey, go ahead, I'm easy. This is one reason why using the "Upload a new version.." feature is paramount - I can certainly understand Bastique doesnt want an orphaned image which eventually gets deleted and leaves a red link in her upload log and i can also understand that the image Khaos is uploading is "the money shot" thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 19:13, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually, no, I think Bastique primarily believes that his image is the better one, not that it shouldn't be orphaned. I didn't want to "upload a new version" because it wasn't a "new version", it was a completely different one. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 19:20, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I personally prefer the current one, although neither is perfect. The current screenshot shows only a slightly important part of the plot (Gwen delievering pizzas), and it is otherwise rather plain. However, the new image, although an argueably more important point of the plot, is poorly focused blurred, and the Weevil's reflection is distracting and fails to illustrate the moment properly, as is the rather cut-off image of Jack's shirt. Really, I'd say a better moment would be either Gwen & Jack on the 'magic lift', or the moment when Gwen walks by the computers, just before one of them bursts out laughing. I understand what you mean, although I have gone through the scene you mention about the computers and I don't think it's suitable for the reason that the wider shot of Gwen walking towards Jack's office doesn't have any of the actors' faces in it at all (and everything else is in tighter shots which doesn't illustrate the point that she's coming into a different world). Jack and Gwen rising is a possibility, but the movement of the slab would make a focused screencapture a bit harder. If clarity and lighting is a problem on the new image, that can be fixed (in fact I've uploaded a new version which ups the contrast slightly). --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 01:32, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I prefer Image:Everything Changes (Torchwood).jpg simply becasue the colours are more vibrant than the other one. Also? You're right, Gwen looks better in it. And while the other one is nice, she looks a bit ... stupid in it. ~Zythe^{Talk to me!} 22:51, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I like the Gwen & Weevil one too, but it does have problems. I really wish these TV channels would quit using bugs (I hate crushed credits too, I actually like to listen to ending themes). Its a shame there isn't a version of the Gwen and Weevil screenshot without the bug, or with the BBC HD bug which is much less invasive than the BBC Three bug. --GracieLizzie 17:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm... If I had to plum for just one, it would be the one with her looking slightly puzzled at the Weevil (ie Khaosworks's picture)... in spite of the BBC Three logo that screams "Hello! I'm a BBC Three Logo! Look at me! Wahey!" <goes for a lie down> - NP Chilla 11:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Suzie Costello page deleted

Was just wondering why? It seems okay to me - and surely it's as reasonable to have a page for her as for Iannto, Owen and all the rest. Does her death at the end of episode one make her less important? Arguably, Russell's faking us out by killing her off in the premier makes her more important. Because an article about here is unlikely (at this point) to go anywhere beyond a few paragraphs that'll duplicate information stated here anyway. And it's not been deleted; it's a redirect. Deletions and dating

I wrote on the Wiki Oz site that I find editing peoples' words to be "by the by", but not then going to Discussion and writing, "I deleted this because..." to be extremely rude. I wrote that Everything Changes hadn't yet reached Christmas 2007 or Early 2008, based on Jack's reference to The Christmas Invasion. It was deleted [by the by], but no reason given [rude]. Can I receive an explanation? [User: Stripey].

It's speculation, not fact. And on Wikipedia it's NOT necessary to give a comment on the talk page every time you delete or change "another person's" edit, or rude not too. Indeed, when you make a contribution to a wiki you are giving up your ownership of those words. PaulHammond 14:32, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Ambiguous sentence

From the current revision: "the governments of the world have no control over Torchwood, to prevent them from using their technology for their own purposes." This could mean "Torchwood doesn't let governments use scavenged technology for the governments' own purposes.", or "Governments can't prevent Torchwood for using scavenged technology for their own purposes.". Suzie = main cast?

I disagree with Suzie being listed as a main cast member here. Her name's appearance in the titles and promo material was simply to hide that she would die in this episode; she was never a main cast member, and was never a "star" (as it were) of Torchwood. U-Mos (talk) 19:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Whether Jack is joking

Page currently says: "During his first appearance in the episode, Jack says that he was once pregnant ("I'm not doing that again!"). The series has yet to indicate whether he's being truthful or joking."

During "Dead Man Walking," Jack comments about having dated Proust. Owen says that the group is never sure whether to believe him when he says crazy things like that. Credits - Jack on the Roof

First let me say this is my first post, so PLEASE forgive me (and fix it) if I've chosen the wrong option.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me more about the scene which features initially in 'Everything Changes', but then pops up in the opening credits of the other first season eps (as Jack says "and you've got to be ready"). Jack appears to be standing on the roof of a very large white structure, unsupported by anything. I know there's reference (in this wiki article) to Jack and Gwen standing on the building of the Millenium Centre?, but I am wondering if the scene I'm referring to was also filmed there? Am also wondering whether it was actually John B. in the scene, or whether a double was used? It looks scarily high. I couldn't find any reference to it in the Behind the Scenes details on the DVD's.
