Disambiguator
[edit]The page's current disambiguator is (costume wearer)
, which I feel is a very bizarre disambiguator that doesn't describe the subject well. I moved the page to say (criminal)
instead, and User:PARAKANYAA reverted that because "criminal" is vague and potentially a violation of MOS:CRIMINAL; fair enough. I guess that brings up the question of what would be a better phrase than "costume wearer" that isn't a MOS violation. The only one I can think of would be (Evil Elmo)
since that's a nickname used in multiple sources. Does anyone else have any better ideas? ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 19:20, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
- Honestly, all the headlines call him Evil Elmo, so just that may itself be a better name. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:22, 12 August 2025 (UTC)

Adam Sandler (costume wearer) → Evil Elmo – The name "Evil Elmo" is used in most sources and is thus the WP:COMMONNAME. Additionally, this title removes the strange parenthetical "(costume wearer)". ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 02:32, 15 August 2025 (UTC)

Evil Elmo → Adam Sandler (American pornographer) – "Evil Elmo" seems like an odd title for Sandler, particularly considering that some of his activities have nothing to do with his costumed harassment.
Would also be open to Danny Sandler as a potential alternative. GrinningIodize (you just lost the game) (talk) 21:15, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- Another plausible title would be Adam Sandler (American harasser). GrinningIodize (you just lost the game) (talk) 21:17, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:PSEUDONYM says "The name used most often to refer to a person in reliable sources is generally the one that should be used as the article title, even if it is not the person's "real" name, and even if it appears to pass judgement on the person". That is precisely the case here. My trepidation comes from the fact that the "Elmo Rise" meme could also be interpreted as "Evil Elmo" and has no shortage of press coverage, certainly enough to mention in the Elmo article. I would support moving this page to Evil Elmo (criminal) as he has been charged with crimes before, and disambiguating "Evil Elmo". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 09:57, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Why not use Danny Sandler? It's not going to cause confusion with Adam Sandler (the actor), and we can just redirect Evil Elmo over there and add a "redirects here" template. GrinningIodize (you just lost the game) (talk) 13:33, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- As I said, WP:PSEUDONYM heavily favors using "Evil Elmo" due to it being the man's nickname in all reliable sources. This applies even if it was given to the person by the media. On second thought, I think it's probably fine to leave the article where it currently is, since it's not directly conflicting with anything. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 21:20, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Do these sources not also refer to him as either Adam or Danny Sandler? GrinningIodize (you just lost the game) (talk) 21:34, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- The question is what he is primarily known as, rather than other names they also mention. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 03:11, 27 August 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose, he is half notable for the web pornography but more notable for the costumes. Most sources call him this. It's not like he seems to mind. Danny Sandler would also be alright, don't care, but oppose the suggested move. PARAKANYAA (talk) 15:08, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- What about Adam Sandler (American harasser) or perhaps Adam Sandler (American costumed harasser) since that's what he's best known for? GrinningIodize (you just lost the game) (talk) 15:36, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- I don't think "harasser" is really an NPOV description. PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:55, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- "Evil Elmo" isn't either. GrinningIodize (you just lost the game) (talk) 18:07, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- It's a nickname, as in an actual name that people use, not a term of description. PARAKANYAA (talk) 18:40, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
