In its current form, this article fails to mention the grounds for suspecting Hubbard never wrote it, although the abundance of testimonies for its existence implies there is doubt. ("The lady protesteth too much.") I know of one anecdote where Hubbard directly states he never wrote the manuscript. According one close associate, someone had come to Hubbard's front door , begging to read Excalibur; Hubbard managed to get rid of the stranger, then after the door closed he laughed & said, "One of these days I'll need to actually write the darned thing." Unfortunately, I don't remember where I read this (most likely Atack's A Piece of Blue Sky) nor the person who told the story. - Excellent point -- I'll keep an eye out for the source you mention, it sounds fasciating! Lots of peopel say they read an Excalibuer manuscript, but to complicate matters, Excalibur was also a working titles for Dianetics, raising the possibility that the manuscripts which have been reported are ones that date to 1948-49, as opposed to original Excalibuer which was supposed to have existed in 1938, but perhaps never existed.
