"duplicate" overused, misused?

edit

This is obviously a superficial translation from the German. In German, exsiccatae are also called Doublettenherbare -- maybe from the practice of pressing and drying specimens between two sheets of paper. The translator here seems to have misunderstood that as meaning the collections were produced in duplicate. Can that be demonstrated from authoritative sources? I haven't found any. This question needs to be resolved before beginning the thorough native-English copy-editing that this article badly needs. Wegesrand (talk) 15:56, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, exsiccatae are produced in duplicates, as they are numbered sets of herbarium specimens intended for distribution. I don't think this article is a translation per se, but was written by a native German speaker. Esculenta (talk) 16:38, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
