The quiet incident

edit

Does anyone remember the incident a few years ago where the fans were quiet for approximately the first 20 minutes of a match? Maybe someone can write a sentence or a paragraph about the incident? Kingjeff (talk) 01:41, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I can remember it dimly (as this happened in a match against FC Bayern Munich). This link provides some more information. --Jaellee (talk) 19:44, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was in the stadium when it happened. The fans were mad because of the bad games before and that the season was chaotic. So they decided to make a sign and they were qiuet for 19 minutes and 04 seconds. Just at the moment when this action message was over Levan Kobiashvili shoot the 2-0 against Bayern München. Damn, this moment was great, but sadly the game ended 2-2.

I'm not sure how to write this one. Has Schalke had enough notable events over the years to maybe create a "Notable events" section? Kingjeff (talk) 23:55, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jermaine Jones's Nationality

edit

Please stop changing Jones's nationality to German. Although he has played for the German national team and has not played for the US national team yet, the standard explanatory line regarding nationality is that it is determined by FIFA eligibility rules. Under FIFA eligibility rules, Jermaine Jones is eligible to play for the US and only for the US, because he has utilized his one-time switch in national allegience (having not played in an A-level match for Germany). I understand the theory behind listing him as German, but it is at odds with the text right above the squad list, and thus will be confusing and incorrect to the average reader. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.120.230.194 (talk) 13:22, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article about Schalke's past you might want to use as reference

edit

I'm not really interested in becoming deeply involved with the Schalke article, but I just read this article on sportal (http://www.sportal.de/sportal/generated/article/fussball/2011/03/22/19280700000.html). It has some stuff you might want to reference in the history of the club section. The article is in German, but I presume some of the editors here are fluent in German. Cleaning up the Honors-Section

edit

Some of the listed titles obviously doesn't exist. According to the club's webpage about its history 1923-1929 they didn't win any "Emscherkreis" or "Kreisliga" titles in these times. According to the website about the history 1904-1022 they didn't win any titles during that period, so the "A-Klasse" and "B-Klasse" titles are false too.

The Club's honors page mentions another title though, the West German Cup 1955, wich i added to the list.

Why 04?

edit

I'm guessing the "04" in its name is for the year of formation, but according to the article it didn't take this name until 1924. Is there a reliable source out there that explains exactly how and why "04" came to be in the name? 86.44.198.28 (talk) 20:58, 26 April 2011 (UTC) You right, it's 04 because the first Schalke-footbal club Westfalia Schalke was found 1904, the name was just later changed after the Reinliche Scheidung, that meant that Turnvereine and Fußballvereine were splitted. So TuS 1877 Schalke was splitted into a Turnverein and a footballclub and the footballer named the new football club FC Schalke 04. Believe me that's right, I'm a fan for years, I know it.Reply

Manager

edit

I just wanted to add that our Manager is Horst Heldt, Ralf Rangnick is our head coach.

This is a false friend between (British) English and German: Manager (German) ≠ Manager (English) The position that in British English is called "Manager" is what in German would be "Trainer". "Head coach" is predominantly American English. The position that in German is called "Manager" would be the "Chairman" in British English ("President" in American English). Articles in the English Wikipedia about European Football tend to be written in British English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C6:1526:9F01:A582:88E9:C806:D450 (talk) 13:35, 24 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Polish immigrants?

edit

Kuzorra's and Szepan's parents came from Neidenburg county in East Prussia. They were Germans. See English and German Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.221.54.182 (talk) 21:18, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Maintenance tags

edit

@Eem dik doun in toene: I have started working on addressing the maintenance tags.[1] However, a lot of tags were removed a few weeks ago in this edit, where you called them "needless" in your edit summary. Looking at the tags, I agree that some of them are unnecessary (including many of the removed {{tone}} tags), but I'd consider the majority at least worth looking at, and definitely not needless. This especially includes many of the "by whom" and "citation needed" tags. Could you help me restore those that are at potentially useful? Renerpho (talk) 18:27, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Moin, Renerpho. Great work. I've restored some of the tags and added some new ones, nearly all of them asking for citations. I hope this will do? Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 19:21, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Eem dik doun in toene: Thanks a lot! Yes, this will do. I am hopeful that the article can be brought up to standard. Just a few good references, like Kuster's study of Schalke during the Third Reich, may be enough to get the history section properly sourced. Many of the remaining issues are stylistic. It really looks worse than it is. Renerpho (talk) 13:16, 19 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Renerpho - Great to hear! If you want to get it up to Good Article standard, I'm happy to help when I have the time. If not, then I indeed think adding some quality references will do. Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 15:11, 19 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
