Additional notes

edit

Some further notes for later write-up:

  • The basic record-request programme Family Favourites was broadcast on weekday evenings (once, or occasionally, twice a week) from Wednesday 1 August 1945 until Tuesday 15 October 1963. Though presented from London only, the weekday evening edition included "some records chosen by Service men and women from overseas" from Wednesday 7 October 1953.
  • The "two-way" Sunday version, in collaboration with BFN and, later, other broadcasters, began on 7 October 1945. Initially it was broadcast at 10.15-11.15. The 12.00 start time was introduced on 30 March 1947.
  • The title Two-Way Family Favourites was applied to the Sunday edition from 24 July 1955 until 24 September 1967.
  • Apart from Christmas specials on 24 December 1983 and 1984, the last regular broadcast of Family Favourites (as Australian Family Favourites, an element of the Ed Stewart programme on BBC Radio 2) went out on Thursday 21 July 1983.
