Family Planning In India Feedback
editGreat job adding more insight and context to the family section in India! I really appreciate that you included information on how levels of social independence and attitues towards domestic violence plays a role in familly planning utilization. It would also be interesting to see if there are specific differences in socioeconomic status in Manipur and Andhra Pradesh and there associations with family planning services/utilization. It might also help to expand more about what specific cultural barriers have impeded delivery of family planning to organize the information based on the factors you mentioned like castes, social classes, education status, and geographic location Kreyes2 (talk) 18:01, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Edits of Significance
editSection: Inequities in Family Planning within the US
- Although I agree with the language used, I am unsure if the language in the sentence: "The reproductive rights of some individuals are valued more than the rights of others" can be interpreted to be subjective and exemplary of opinion.
- " Long-acting reversible contraception (LARCs), including intrauterine devices and progestin implants, and permanent sterilization have been implemented to limit reproduction in communities of color, the lower socioeconomic class, and among individuals with intellectual disabilities." Add citation. I assume it is the same one used in the subsequent sentence.
Section: Xinjiang and the genocide of the Uyghur people
- "In 2021, the Uyghur Tribunal in London also concluded that China has subjected the Muslim minority to forced sterilizations and abortion approved bu the highest level in Beijing"
- Typo: bu --> by
- Delete: "also"
- Citation.
- "This decline is not only attributed to the splitting of couples, but also mass sterilization policies and forced IUD implantation."

editSection: Family Planning in Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals
The section was a great addition to the paper. Your opening paragraph is solid. I like how you acknowledge hardships. I like the use of hyperlinks (e.g. cryopreservation"). Possible suggestion is to mention the cost of preservation options. Just a suggestion but I think it would help emphasize one of the barrier to starting a family. I recommend adding a citation to the sentence "Even though many transgenders and gender-nonbinary youth express desire..."
"Interventions use to facilitate gender transition such as hormone therapy and gender affirming surgeries (e.g., genital surgery, and chest surgery) can temporarily or permanently impact the chance of becoming pregnant" This sentence I think should be written like "Interventions used to facilitate gender transition, such as hormone therapy and gender affirming surgeries (e.g., genital surgery, and chest surgery), can temporarily or permanently impact the chance of becoming pregnant.
Would recommend adding citations to first two sentences in last paragraph .

The "social conservatism" subsection
editAs one of these mythical social conservatives, I do not find this section an accurate representation of my beliefs or of those of any social conservatives I know. In particular, the motivation for opposing family planning is identified as "In order to preserve traditional gender roles" which is highly simplistic and not usually accurate. In my experience, the reason for opposing family planning more often has to do with factors like seeing life as a gift from God to be accepted at any time, concern about divorcing sexual intercourse from procreation, skepticism about the reality of overpopulation, and/or concerns about the economic and social impact of a birthrate below the replacement rate. Then there is this absurd strawman that we currently present as factual: "Hans Rosling notes in his book 'Factfulness', this has little to do with religious or famiy values, and are merely 'patriarchal values'." If there is no objection, I will simply remove this sentence in the next day or two. Andrew Sheedy (talk) 18:05, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
