Picture
editAnd not a single picture for those hundreds of cons?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 01:16, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- I've dropped in a pic, along with a few other changes. Hope this helps. :-) GreenReaper 04:04, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup
editThis article needs help... it seems to focus on some mostly unknown cons while ignoring some of the larger ones (such as Star Wars Celebration, GenCon, etc). Should also be wikified.
I'll do some work on it as soon as I get a moment.
Furry
editWhy does this article focus on "furry" conventions, a very small minority of fan conventions? 209.98.250.100 (talk) 04:21, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Because nobody has yet volunteered to write about others. Will you? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 05:00, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- One paragraph would not appear to be as much of a focus if the entire article were larger. Like science fiction convention, furry convention is a well-developed topic, with several articles about specific conventions of note. As Piotrus notes, articles about other types of fan convention are not as well developed, and so their coverage in this summary article is lacking. Feel free to expand such articles, and this summary along with it. GreenReaper (talk) 05:22, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- I trimmed back the undue emphasis on furry cons, and the one-shot JAWS thing. This article conflates commercial shows like GenCon and SanDiego ComicCon with fan-run, not-for-profit conventions, which I think is a shame (but a widespread failing). --Orange Mike | Talk 18:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think the furry image is relevant, not just because it's pretty gross but because the page is about fan conventions not furry conventions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.240.38 (talk) 15:23, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- WP:SOFIXIT. :-) You will need to register to upload files, although there may be one at another page that you find suitable (e.g. science fiction convention). GreenReaper (talk) 15:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Paid "guests"
edit(It should be noted that such features are not common at traditional science fiction conventions, which are more oriented towards science fiction as a mode of literature, rather than towards visual media, and do not include any paid appearances by famous personalities.) There of course exist science fiction conventions which are solely focused on written science fiction, but it is very common for science fiction conventions to have a strong visual media focus, and have paid guests.--RLent (talk) 23:56, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- If events have paid "guests," then they are becoming commercial shows, not traditional science fiction conventions. That's one of the ways you can tell, aside from the more obvious (i.e., commercial for-profit vs. fan-run not-for-profit). Fan conventions may be more or less media oriented (the most extreme case being MediaWest); but they don't pay for "guests". The Guests of Honor at fan conventions come in return for (at most) reimbursement of our expenses and registration fees. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

editI'm a little uncomfortable with both of the current links which go to ad-supported sites. Are these really needed, given that we have all those lists of our own now? GreenReaper (talk) 14:10, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Template:Infobox convention - addition of "motto" field?
editHi. I'd like to add a "motto" field to the {{Infobox convention}} template, due to KotoriCon having a motto (and I'd guess other conventions having mottos). Any objections? Thanks for any feedback! Allens (talk | contribs) 21:10, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
